I'm looking to shadow dentists or volunteer to work in a hospital. I was wondering if there is a volunteer organization I could contact or if I would have to ask the hospitals directly? Any volunteer experience in the health care field would be greatly appreciated! I am a Thai citizen so visas would not be an issue.

I have no idea but if you are a Thai citizen who presumably speaks fluent Thai, why not just speak to the Director(s) of the local hospital(s)

Your English Skills could well be in demand at some hospitals (presumably you speak Thai also)

You could start by volunteering to translate for foreigners.

Other language skills are often welcomed in hospitals everywhere.

There is a lot to "consider" if you want to shadow doctors. Is it because you are a medical student? I can think of 99 different reasons why Drs do not want to be "shadowed" and why hospitals might prevent this.

Some kind of plan is needed, and you may need vetting.

There are issues of confidentiality, security, ethics and many things going on here. Will you wear a white coat? Will people think you are a doctor? I worked in hospitals for 20 years. Believe me, there are all sorts of scams. Imposters, murderers, drug thieves and good old lunatics who think they are really doctors!

I would never allow shadowing of any qualified staff without questioning motivation.

For most Doctors or Nursing Sisters, you would be a nuisance! The normal way to go about this is to become an auxiliary nurse or nurse aid (with an employment contract, so that your mistakes would be properly indemnified following some level of training)... OR a part of the official hospital volunteer group (where you will make tea but not be allowed to perform surgery!)

Actually right now Yak Sant tattoos are a hype amongst lonely planets, no Thailand trip without one.

Are you qualified as a clinician (nurse or doctor)? Or are you qualified as a health specialist in some way?

I am actually a pre-dental student, so I was thinking of shadowing a dentist in a clinic setting for dental experience! From what my pre-dental friends who have shadowed doctors in the US have told me, mostly their responsibilities included sterilizing the dentist's tools and such rather than actually performing any "real" tasks, so that's the type of experience I was hoping to gain.
