BANGKOK: -- The massive drought situation has prompted the prime minister to plan a field trip to the Northeast to see for himself the extent of the crisis tomorrow.

This was disclosed by the deputy spokesman after yesterday’s meeting in which drought problem was raised to see the progress on water projects he had earlier assigned to authorities.

Col Aphisit Chainuwat, the deputy spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha would visit to all drought affected areas in Udon Thani province.

He will be meeting with local residents to reassure them that they are being looked after and ascertain the progress being made on water rationing measures to handle the serious drought crisis blighting the country, the deputy spokesman said.

Meanwhile in Nakhon Ratchasima province, the governor yesterday voiced concern over the severely depleted water supplies in the Lam Takhong dam and forbade residents to block major roads to splash water in the upcoming Songkran festival to conserve water.

In Bangkok, concerned over water shortages in the capital, the governor of Bangkok MR Sukhumbandu Paribatra yesterday visited the Rang Khey marshes located in Bang Khunthein district to order a 2 meter depth dredge of the marshes as a possible alternative water containment facility.

The project could possibly store 150,000 cubic meters of water that could provide an alternative water supply during severe droughts.

many folks may not have the time to investigate all of what is going on.....which is that we are just coming off the apex of a very strong El Nino, technically the strongest El Nino on record (but only very slightly.... above the last record strong one.. but that was as recently as 1998). this will be followed by the opposite, a few years of moderate El Nino and then La Nina. this has been going on for a long time. what is new is that this cycle looks to be getting somewhat stronger in both directions because of climate change. and, as everyone really really had better know.. especially we would hope American voters (forget it).... climate change, and the models based on them such as predictions of sea level and loss of habitat etc are based on thermal expansion of the oceans and normal ice melt. those models do not include (yet) any of the feedbacks that are not easily put into those models yet as well as Abrupt Climate Change scenarios.. and most importantly for those of us living around the Bay of Bengal (which for some of us, such as those in Chiangmai, is perhaps a more appropriate reference rather than the political map with the Gulf of Thailand in the center) the recent stuff such as "hinges", loss of buttress supports (ice shelf support of land based ice sheets) and what was revealed just this past Monday, which is very new... these are not included at all in any of the Climate Change models or predictions. meaning 5 meters at any time.... not a couple inches by 2099 which is what the mass media presents.... is what lies on just those 3 ice sheets in West Antarctica that photos were shown of a few days ago. and all of this is the easy stuff to take in.... if you haven't gone into Abrupt Climate Change stories and videos.... don't.... i.e. try to figure out why Christiana Figueres won't go anywhere near even making the slightest hint as to where the opposition to a carbon price came from at Paris... even though we all know.... or you were to think about the implications to success given that they had to completely exempt aviation (tourism) and shipping otherwise there would not even have been a Paris accord at all.

but the good news is that the drought in Thailand is probably at it's worse this summer.. and will abate (quite probably).

I'm wondering what he knows about droughts and water conservation and why the trip in the first place.

Should he be sending the experts instead?

I'm wondering how or why he doesn't look up and say, I wonder what those planes are spraying?

What is that stuff that covers the skies from horizon to horizon? http://go.nasa.gov/255ZCS5

What is this geo-engineering so many are talking about?

Why are there treaties that state weather modification cannot be used as a weapon.

What are these chemtrail summits being held around the world.

Why does he not ask, what in the world are they spraying?

Dredge the Rang Khey marshes as a possible alternative water containment facility.

So really no idea whether the destruction of wetlands will be beneficial.

Fortunately, the Junta can dispense with having to perform any EIA to investigate possible destruction of wildlife supported by the marshes or ancillary impacts to groundwater systems in the area. What will remain is a potential huge garbage dump.
