Chromecast not recognizing my TP Link

Featured Replies

I just bought a chromecast so I can watch netflix on my otherwise not-smart TV. It connects to my HDMI port fine. I downloaded the chromecast app for my tablet....no problem. But during the set up, the app tries to link to my TOT TP Link TD-W8961ND router. It doesn't.

I suspect I have to make some changes in my router settings. I know how to log on to my router page (192.168.1.1) but have never made changes to any of the settings before.

Wondering if there's someone else in Thailand with the same router and with a chromecast that had to make changes (to the router settings). Any assistance would be appreciated.

  1. Try updating the router firmware to the latest version - if you are not familiar with this please request assistance >>> http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TD-W8961ND.html#Firmware
  2. While configuring the Chromecast, switch off the smartnetwork feature on the phone (or disable mobile data) - later it can be enabled.
  3. No changes to the router settings were necessary (I have a TP Link Archer D2)

Good luck!

I was able to successfully download the chromecast app on our second mobile phone (Galaxy Note 3) and cast netflix to our TV. Mission accomplished. My Galaxy Tab S still doesn't recognize, but I'm a happy camper with my mobile doing the trick.

Thanks for your input, ravip

I found two interesting/informative comments relating to an issue similar to yours...

*** Currently, Netflix using Cast Screen feature of Chromecast isn’t compatible with Galaxy Tab S series, Note Pro series, Tab Pro series (i.e. it is not supported.)>>> http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/skp/faq/1079749

*** Problem finally solved! Simple solution, but totally not obvious or expected, and evidently nobody else could figure it out: Make sure date and time on your casting device are accurate. The date on my wifi only tablet was off by several days for some reason. Once I set the date and time correctly, everything started working. >>>

*** If you're experiencing issues as a result of the new firmware version (31432) update, please reproduce the issue and then file a feedback report with keywords "31432 Issue Forum" along with a brief description.

We're digging into this now. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Edit
(if the 2nd & 3rd links dont work for some reason, I have copied them on to the attached files)
