BANGKOK, 18 March 2016 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters has organized a seminar on the removal of explosive ordinance and mines with the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense.

Army Chief Joint of Staff Gen Surapong Suwana-adth welcomed Lt Col Steve Jeremy, a mine and explosive ordinance consultant for the UK Ministry of Defense, to the seminar being held to upgrade the work of Thailand’s military, police and security forces against explosives. Members of the UK Ministry of Defense will exchange their knowledge on dealing with explosives and mines with Thai authorities, who themselves will pass on experiences in the field.

The seminar is also taking place to enhance relations between Thailand the UK so that they may further benefit from each other in the future.

The Thai military needs help in identifying and disarming IED's planted by the Malay-Thais in the South.

Both the Brits and Americans have field experience on the topic.

Unfortumately, the Thai government can't get beyond IED's to recognize the root of the problems leading to IED use by insurgents.

Ordinance? So, it's a new law entitled Explosive Ordinance?

Ordnance you dumb a...s, Ordnance! And Australia has extensive experience and expertise in the area of IEDs and EO.

Of course Australia does.

That's why Thailand chooses Britain or US.

The Americans and British have first hand experience of IED's in the South of Thailand.. How? Thailand has field experience they are in there everyday! Most armed forces do exchange knowledge in this way. Especially on these types of events.

I would imagine the UK army has experience going back to the troubles in Northern Ireland. This would have continued during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. A good idea in theory to share that expertise.

I wonder if they'll finally accept that the GT200 contains no electronic components whatsoever, and is wholly ineffective at detecting bombs and explosives?

Early this century the British army and Thai military were co-operating with the Malaysian Military quite a lot. I remember the Malaysian army ambushing some insurgents who were fleeing Thai forces and headed into Malaysia - around 2002. I also know several British servicemen from that time who were training Thai forces in anti terrorist skills. (At least one acquired a Thai wife!).

Those Thais shouldn't be wasting their time with the British: there is clearly a mismatch of fancy medals and ribbons on display. And who in their right mind wears camouflage indoors?
