March 19, 201610 yr My friend got married 3 years ago in England to a Thai woman but has never registered it in Thailand, is he able to register it in Thailand and get a marriage visa to stay in Thailand long term ?
March 19, 201610 yr A non-o visa based upon marriage can be obtained without the foreign marriage being registered here at an Amphoe To obtain a one year extension of stay based upon marriage requires the marriage be registered here. To do the registration requires the marriage certificate to be translated to Thai and the translation certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Amphoe will then issue a Kor Ror 22 needed to prove the marriage was registered,

March 19, 201610 yr Great thanks for the info, can he change his tourist visa to a non - o visa at any immigration office or have to leave the country ? Not any office. Probably only be able to do it at CW Bangkok. He would need to have at least 15 days left of his tourist visa entry and show 400K in the bank or a certified income of 40K pm on the day he applied. It would require 2 visits to CW. Then a 3rd visit to his local immigration office to apply for a 1 year exertion of stay. He can get a new single entry visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate without any financial proof and then apply for a 1 year extension of stay at his local immigration office.
