Thailand executives claim they weren’t actually trading

I can't stop laughing. Seriously, these guys think that the RTP is that stupid? Rhetorical question. gigglem.gif

Maybe the RTP are that stupid. RTP sometimes want to let the guilty party go, if the guilty are rich and/or well-connected, and/or willing to pay beaucoup. In those cases, even the silliest excuse would suffice. Don't forget, this is a country where everyone, without exception, believes in ghosts and the protection power of talismans.

When members of a very rich Thai family were named as top suspects in a double murder (Ko Tao island, Sept 2014), they got off quickly within days. One was let off permanently by having his lawyer show two still grainy photos to press corps. The other was let off after a 3 hour secret meeting with his RTP buddies, from which no transcripts/photos/videos came forth.

"The executives nonetheless received hefty fines. According to SEC regulations, they were guilty of unfair trading practices. It was also revealed by the press some of these executives were part of the richest families in Thailand. Their lawyers argued that the execs were not aware playing bingo and cards was equal to unfair trading."

They aren't.

However insider dealing is.

How many packs of cards did they have?

'...they weren't really trading', hmm...? Yes, sure! No doubt this statement is as convincing as Bill Clintons', erm, 'not really trading', with Monica Lewinsky in the oval office...

Sources are now revealing the shareholders and executives of five companies cited were not aware they were actually trading. Instead, representatives suggest they were holding recreational card games and other activities with co-workers and family members.

“We did not know the bingo chips were for real trades. Those cards looked different, but seemed harmless,” an unidentified CEO said.

Indeed there were playing cards that looked odd. Analysts said they could have symbols representing specific transactions to be played out. So far, nobody who has been cited has come forth to reveal what these mean.

Why does this sound like a story straight out of "The Onion"??

The story leads to more questions than answers. Sorry but were these guy conducting insider trading or just gambling with shares of stock? Insider trading is one thing (which does not appear they were doing) which is far more nefarious whereas it looks like they were basically gambling with shares of stock if I got this right. So are they guilty of "trading" or gambling? Seems like neither the police nor the press seems to be able to get the story to the public in a way that sheds light on the subject. Typical of just about every story that comes out of the Thai English language press.
