CPD and Green Politics Group want reforms achieved before elections

BANGKOK, 21 March 2016 (NNT) - The Campaign for Popular Democracy (CPD) and Green Politics Group held on Sunday a seminar over the draft charter and the future of Thailand.

Among the attendees were Mr. Seri Suwanphanon, chairman of a National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) committee, and Mr. Thawee Suraritkul, a former member of the National Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Seri cited the need for clarify in national reform, especially with regards to the constitution. He revealed that many suggestions have been made to the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC), particularly clauses concerning the elections.

The CDC was also asked to consider excluding party-list MPs from contending in the elections. According to Mr Seri, this measure would prevent vote buying and corruption.

Meanwhile, the Green Politics Group has demanded that the government first achieves the three following requests before elections.

They include exercising its power under Section 44 to complete the reforms within its term, informing the public of which issues need reform and encouraging civic networks to voice their opinions, and call on the National Council for Peace and Order and the Five Rivers to expedite the reform process.

"We really wanted to have elections in 2020, but the people insisted that we held off until reform had taken place..."

This sounds like a political gathering with far more than 5 persons in attendance.

Fortunately, good people were there to provide guidance.

The Five Rivers keep flowing. Water runs downhill.

So much to do with the draft charter the pages must be that soiled,

they have be come illegible

Shouldn't Campaign for Popular Democracy be Campaign for Thai Democracy (CTD) or Campaign for Unrecognizable Democracy (CUD)?

Popular democracy would be found among Western nations and Pacific Rim countries. But CDC Chairman Meechai held that nowhere in which seems fairly obvious.

How about Committee for Understanding New Thai Situation?

Unfortunately "green politics" in Thailand has a very different meaning compared to most other countries. Just a pity the army wear green uniforms !?
