BANGKOK:-- A new initiative which sees officers from Samranrat police station patrolling the streets of Bangkok on bicycles and a tricycle in order to clear sois and side alleys of trash and other debris has been widely praised local residents.

The new initiative called the ‘Clear the Road’ patrol has received many positive comments from people after officers from the Traffic Police Commander Region 2 posted it about it on their Facebook page.

The purpose of the Clear the Road patrol is to remove any debris or rubbish which may be blocking access to the sois and obstructing sidewalks in the area near Samranrat police station.

Pol. Lt. Col. Somkasem Jarak, Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Control Division, Samranrat Police Station, told reporters that his officers have been doing similar work clearing obstacles from the road for sometime. However, more recently it was decided to introduce the tricycle to the patrol as officers were not always able to clear all the debris from the road.

Speaking of the tricycle, the superintendent said: “It’s very useful and convenient. The small size of the bike can access any small or narrow alley while the cart box attached can carry articles seized back to the station”.

The superintendent added that the officers who take part in the patrol also benefit from exercising when riding the bikes.

Only in Thailand ....

Garbos in uniform.

All that money spent on training police officers and they get assigned to pick up garbage. There really is no rhyme nor reason to these people.

Even the recyclers have a tricycle with an engine and those policemen have to bike themselves in that hot brown suit.facepalm.gif

So they would rather cleanup themselves instead of writing fines to offenders...Thailand only....next they will build another skywalk above the sidewalks i guess.

Good job, both cleaning and wasting law enforcement resources.

That's about all the police are good for in this country. Garbage collects garbage!

You can't make this shit up!!!

Next is Thai Chi, ?

and please ask any potential robbers to also use

tricyicles as their mode of transport.

I am all for public service, but lets have some diligent policing first,

A good role for all those chaps on the "Inactive posts" list.

The tricycle looks as though they found it abandoned in a soi!

Anything is better than doing the policejob whistling.gif

Trained, sort of, to fight crime and now literally clearing up the nation's garbage.

The national police chief should be all over this for wasting resources on non- constabulary duties but as long as there's favourable publicity and some can get photographed it's likely to spread. I wonder if they take beer cans etc in to scrap dealers and collect cash ?

If it's good enough for a beauty queen, it's good enough for a police officer......

Maybe an alternative to being transferred to an inactive post?

Come on people for once the police are doing something useful.

Give them credit not ridicule.

For once no brown envelopes involved.

Has the unit been given an official name yet ? How about

The Serious Grime Squad ?

Look we we asked you guys to clean up this town we meant enforce the laws fairly not pickup trash use the crimanals to do trash pickup.

I was hoping it was going to be a story about them FINALLY clearing the vendors off of the footpaths and sois.

Absurd. What's next? Garbagemen carrying out drug sting operations?

Does this imply there are no street cleaners or are the street cleaners now doing law enforcement

This is the perfect "punishment duty" for naughty cops...... Excellent

I wonder If I can rent those cops to move my furniture to storage for me, they seems like they doing their

job very enthusiastically....

You got to respect them for that. At least they are doing something worthwhile. However, the biggest problem is that Thais just discard their rubbish where they want. Just stand outside any 7/11 and watch as they unwrap a pack of cigarettes or a sandwich and throw the paper on the ground, even though there is a waste bin within arms reach. Sometimes, I feel like giving them a slap, but what's the point; the whole nation's at it!

Well done the BiB.

AH.!! now i know what he meant when he rode into town and said, "I'm gonna clean this town up " al la john wayne. lol ! trouble is, thieves don't ride rickshaws, scooters are their trade mark

And when not collecting soi rubbish they try to solve& prevent crimes.

Seems we need them in Molenbeek, Belgium.

Forget that garbage, which as has already been pointed out is the garbage collectors' job, remove, physically if necessary, the selfish lazy bastards who park their cars and bikes on the bloody footpaths (such as they are). Garbage elimination AND enforcement of laws in one fell swoop. A win win situation thumbsup.gif

I thought the article was going to be about a campaign to educate Thai drivers to make room for ambulances and other emergency vehicles behind them with their lights and sirens on so they can get past them and make it to hospital before the person in the back dies.

So does this mean the garbage collectors will be chasing down the bad guys?? ???

And they are wearing crash helmets !!

And they are wearing crash helmets !!

They found them in the garbage....smile.png
