Three cops fired pending investigation for assaulting students

PHITSANULOK: -- Three policemen accused of allegedly threatening a group of five Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University students at gunpoint and beating them on the side of a road in Phitsanulok province were suspended from duties after they were identified by the students yesterday.

The identification was held at Phitsanulok police station where the three accused police officers were mingling with other officers inside a glass shield room and the victims allowed to identify them from the tinted glass window.

All the three officers were identified.

They are Pol Sgt Subin Nuchkham, Pol Cpt Wutthipat Bua-urai and Pol Lt Cpt Thanakarn Chaipipat.

After the identification, five charges were filed against them. They are attempted murder, body assault, illegal detention, life threatening, and carrying and firing guns in public places.

Initially, all the three were temporarily released as they voluntarily gave themselves to the police to face the accusations.

But to facilitate investigation into their conducts, all were transfered out of the province to the Zone 6 Provincial Police Command pending disciplinary and Criminal investigations.

The incident took place around midnight on March 18, but only came to light Wednesday when the five students filed a complaint with the provincial police, urging them to speed up the investigation.

One of the students, Chaitawat Thamrongsakdikhun, claimed he was driving his friends that night when a car nearly crashed into them.

As he honked his horn of his car as a warning to that car, he was pursued by the motorist and seconds later several shots were fired at his car.

He said a bullet hit the car tyre forcing him to stop.

He said the pursuing motorist then ordered them out of the vehicle at gunpoint, then assaulted them.

The motorist was later identified as Pol Sgt Subin.

But the accused officer later claimed the incident was provoked by Chaitawat intentionally clipping his car, provoking his anger.

One female student was spared from the assault.

Probably just a year of probation and two years of suspended sentence.

Put a comma after "fired" ..... :)

At last police officers fired, not just moved to an inactive post.

Police sometimes think they are above the law.

Well they are not, this is something that is long overdue.

Do wrong get fired. Then hopefully jail time.

I also had my hopes up ;)

"But the accused officer later claimed the incident was provoked by Chaitawat intentionally clipping his car, provoking his anger"

The authorities need to start serving out strong sentences for people who are supposed to be upholding the law who then break it.

They also need to start adding additional punishment for people who come out with childish excuses. You learn at school that these excuses just make things worse. Take full responsibility.

Fired, suspended from duty or transfered out of the province? So which is it?

Yesterday it was transfered to an inactive post. My guess is that is the reality. Just move the thugs elsewhere, then back to business as usual.

Why not arrested and jailed? As well as fired, with loss of all benefits. But TiT where corruption rules EVERYTHING.

Three cops transferred to take the heat off any investigation, until the story dies down and they can be reinstated allowing them to carry on as usual.

"But to facilitate investigation into their conducts, all were transferred out of the province to the Zone 6 Provincial Police Command pending disciplinary and Criminal investigations."

How does "transferred out of the province" translate into "fired"?

If it read..."They were kicked out to the curb permanently and will never receive one baht in compensation", that would translate into "fired".

This just translates into: "We'll wait until this blows over and then you can return to your previous posts".

So, who was "fired"?

That's right. Nobody.

Oh, and have these rogue cops also been tested for drugs and alcohol? They surely look inebriated in the widely posted video as they staggered around the students' car. And their enraged yelling and shouting of obscenities and insults makes one wonder if they were perhaps on something else than merely a few whisky too many.

You got that wrong: the police fired at the students.

They are not fired, moved as usual, inactive post, enjoying some well deserved holidays.

I believe it when I see it.

Thailand certainly has a long way to go before anyone including there own people would put much faith in the RTP.....................................coffee1.gif

Bizarro World...

Thugs " fired". Finally some justice, (if it really happens)

The headline says "Fired" and th context says "Suspended". I understand the writer does not understand English very well but there is the world of difference between Fired and Suspended. Please try and get consistency

It's at shame that posters don't read the damn article before they take to reply...

The head line is totally incorrect...shabby and almost certainly deliberately so...

No one was fired...except a gun!

AND one officer admits he lost his temper and fired...<deleted>... He's an armed police officer with a temper!

I'll delete my next comment myself...

Only in Thailand can you be charged with attempted murder and in the next breath allowed to go home as if nothing has happened.

Fired: go home and don't come back

Suspended: go home and take a rest; you'll probably be back

"Fired" was to get your attention

"Suspended" is the standard BIB m.o.

We all know which term will stick.

A 25 March/6:36pm Bangkok Post article says the three have now been dismissed from the police force, face charges of attempted murder & illegal detention, have reported to investigators to acknowledge the charges, and are temporarily free on bail. Appears the heat became to great on police authorities today and they had to take aggressive action.

Thai cops firing guns at random is not exactly unheard of; the fact that the pieces of lead that exit the tube at the end, have to either hit something or land somewhere often fails to occur to them.

But transferred, suspended or fired? Which was it?

Does it seem that cops are increasingly being disciplined and sometimes fired?

Anybody know if there is a connection between cops fired and voting records?

Just wondering whether this gang of hoodlums (the RTP) will be investigated further. IMHO this would probably not be their first such activity.

They provoked my anger. So therefore I'm not responsible for my actions. Now gimme back my gun and badge.

Thai Visa members should know by now , not to read too much into the sensational headlines published by this organization

Murder charges? Free on bail??

Who is now protecting the victims?

Ya, the headline for the OP article here says they were "fired" also -- but then the actual text of the article here doesn't support that and instead says they were basically suspended and charged with crimes.

In Thai parlance, sometimes I've seen, getting "fired" is meant to mean getting removed from one's current job -- but not necessarily kicked out by one's employer.

I wonder, which is the correct version? I rarely, if ever, can recall any cops actually being dismissed from their jobs (fired) immediately in the wake of some accusations.

If they ever actually get fired, it's usually only at the end of a long drawn out court and appeals process where (rarely) they're actually found guilty and sentenced (with no further appeals available to them).

Even criminals deserve their day in court. whistling.gif

The video was sickening, the cop repeatedly kicking the one fellow and the other one being led around the car with what looked like a tow strap. The sound was the worst of it, I asked the wife to turn it off. I have PTSD and a bit of a problem with anger management, don't like to see stuff like that from bullies in uniform.
