PHUKET: -- The black sludge of untreated wastewater pooling on Surin Beach will remain until the illegal buildings on the sands have been destroyed, confirmed Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organization (OrBorTor) President Ma-ann Samran yesterday.

“The wastewater is from beachfront shops in the area. Some of the shops have acted responsibly and treated wastewater before releasing it, while others have not,” he said. “Either way, they will all be demolished on April 20.”

In January last year, black pools of wastewater on Surin also made headlines.

Or hopes it will remove itself during the next king tide or rain storm so he can perform his usual duty of doing absolutely nothing.

Some of the shops have acted responsibly and treated wastewater before releasing it,

So they have a built in wastewater treatment facility? Usually wastewater should be led to proper treatment facilities which have the water go through a variety of steps to make it clean again. It's not something you can have in small form factor attached to your restaurant.

Provincial wastewater treatment is just a couple of concrete rings to trap solids while sludge water is released freely.

That's the source of nutrients for both fishes and swimmers.

The pic must be a file photo.

The pond is absolutely black now and stinks.

Ma-ann said he would have a pump truck drain it regularly but I see no evidence of that.

His new agenda is to blame his new enemy , the shops that have existed there since the Tsunami that he wants gone - but not ALL of them !

I note that a new and non-operating set of water treatment concrete tanks up near the main road are like a headwater to this mess.

Its a shame to see this beautiful beach so mismanaged...
