The twistiest road in southern thailand possibly.

Featured Replies

little trip over the mountain in Phang Nga province just off highway 4 between krabi and phuket, its not really suited to bigger bikes as really tight and narrow, its great on the crf but not ideal with my off road tyres need to get supermoto wheels fitted.....The road don't stay straight for anything longer than 20 meters ,the pace picks up little as the video progresses.

Yes - it's a good road provided you don't get stuck behind a Sunday driver. I have ridden it a few times.

Did you ride upto Khao khai Nui with your off-road tyres ?

There is also an off-road track that runs behind the twisties.

10 years here and never heard of khao khai nui, just googled it ,looks interesting will give me somewhere to go next week could possible make a loop and come back over the mountain road again.interested in that dirt track aswell of high way four .

You need to go at first light, prolly best to ride up in the previous afternoon and camp over night.

I'm surprised you found anything in English .. Maybe it was a post I had written somewhere .. Search in Thai will get some more results.

This trip looks great. Can anyone be a little more specific on the route details from Phuket? Is this a viable day trip if on the road at dawn?

That's a screen from Apple maps. Google earth is your friend there.

I wouldn't .. And I did ..

I left from Phang-Nga at 4.00 or something. The road was dangerous and we couldn't find the entry road at first light. It's not a managed park or anything.

We went up last August, I didn't make it up the final hill, the bike wasn't going to make it, I walked up, too slippery, too steep .. But my mate from Thai Versys club did in the dry season.

It's not possible in a car. When we finally arrived there were some proper jacked-up 4x4s at the summit, I think there are tours out of Ao Lak.

Best to go the night before and camp, the road itself is a mission. If it all goes wrong, it's too much of a rush to get to the top, and takes the enjoyment from it.

I will do some work on the maps / GPS positions and send you both some links.

I haven't explained .. When you get to the top, you have the sea of mist to one side and when you turn around you get a view over the Andaman. It's pretty darn cool.

I'm always up for going up again, anytime before or after songkran. I'm in Songkhla.

I skimmed through YouTube .. There seems to be a couple of mountains named Kao Kai Nui .. But here's a decent video, from a year back, in March .. Looks a lot better than August.

ok i took the challenge went up there to check it out today, nice ride on the road up there found it easy enough 270km round trip with a couple of detours exploring Phangna,i got to the top there was no one up there ,it seems they are building some bungalows, yep younreally need to camp up there to se the beauty in the morning mist.

The road up there is pretty rough and steep in places them guys on the bigger bikes done well to get all the way up there, its a lot router and steeper than it looks in the video.

Im up for going again and camping up there.

Well done.

There is a Muslim guy who lives just at the summit there, he was telling us he wanted to do some homestay - I guess it's all illegal. It's a lot more built up than a year back.

Hell ! There is some kind of building on the andanan side.

Yeah, the video makes it look easy, it is rough and that last slope to the top is a long push right ?

There seems to be some kind of entrance hut being built, shame it looks like a car park at the top.

Yeah man .. I bought a new sleeping bag the other day, will be good to give it a test.

I know of another place where the sea of fog occurs, in Yala half way between the city and Betong.

That's another cool road to ride.
