BANGKOK: -- The police investigating the fatal car accident implicating the Red Bull energy drink heir have mishandled the case for not charging the suspect with drunk driving, Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, acting commissioner of metropolitan police, told a press conference today (Monday).

Quoting the result of the initial probe into police handling of the case, he said that the suspect, Mr Woravuth Yuwitthaya, was instead charged with speeding and drunk after the accident.

Pol Lt-Gen Sanit admitted that he could not tell whether the dropping of the drunk driving charge by the police concerned amounted to aiding the suspect or not because he didn’t want to implicate any governmental agency concerned.

But as far as the police are concerned, he said that the police could not re-investigate the case against the Red Bull heir. “It is the duty of the prosecutor to decide,” he added.

The speeding charge was automatically dropped because it was not proceeded with the public prosecution within the period of the statue of limitations.

The acting commissioner went on saying that he ordered additional investigation into the issue related to the driver working in the residence of Yuwitthaya family who claimed that he was the driver of the Ferrari which crushed to death a Thonglor traffic policeman on the night of September 3, 2012. The driver later retracted his confession.

When a Police General start o "wonder" why thing that should have been done long time ago, hasn't

been done, YOU KNOW that something is fundamentally wrong with the people we trust to keep the

peace and protect the public.....

because he didn’t want to implicate any governmental agency concerned.

Of course he doesn't, that might put a stop to the entire gravy train!

He wonders, he suspects, he's most likely pretty certain, but he won't do anything in case the whole stack of cards comes tumbling down.

Maybe their were some evidence that got misplaced which caused them to exceed the statute of limitations for that crime or loss of evidence. This guy's family has a lot of influence and money which carries a lot of weight. It's not hard to lose evidence for cases or to forget the time limits to make a case. So many too remember. Yep, who needs to be sued?

I always thought that the police were there to uphold the law.

Police are there to make as much money as they possibly can.

No thought about law and justice, and in this case it was one of their own that died.

DISGUSTING THATS WHAT IT IS DISGUSTING.

Yeah, the thing that is wrong is when a general did not get his cut.

It may be speculative but surely he has some ideas, even if he is not the country's best detective.

Damn they speculate over every strange death yet ponder this incident.......!

"....he's most likely pretty certain..."

He knows exactly what's going on. He's part of the problem not the solution and this is , of course, all for show.

Too bad the cantankerous little general is too busy with the state lottery and attitude adjustment to reform the police!

"Sarcasm Alert"

Every HiSo in Thailand is entitled to kill one Thai citizen, or 2 Farangs per year. They don't have to exercise their option, but if they want to, they can. Since the Red Bull calf didn't exceed his quota, the charges were dropped.

Disclaimer: the above statement is utterly fictitious and has no basis in fact, (or has it?)

As the General in charge of the Police Department, I am structuring into police procedures, Instant dismissal and a 100,000 baht fine for any police, part of any serious accident investigation who do not obtain blood tests of the drivers, whether the drivers are conscious or not.

This regualtion is active instantly.

Seems like a quick response to a ridiculous situation where the police are allowing road crime to go unpunished. No wonder the road toll here is one of the worst in the world.

So the RedBull heir gets away scot free?, but the patsy that worked for him,is the one going to be charged with something.and that will make it OK ?

This all in the news again because of Jentob and the van killing witch.

So the police have to give some sort of heart a*rsed comments to he media "ohhh I wonder why the drunk driving charge was dropped, wouldn't of happened under my watch if I was commissioner then, no siree Bob"

They are just dying for this case to go back under the rug again.

this is not just a Thai problem. Having lived in numerous Asian countries as well as north America it is a common occurrence.

Unless the media really kicks up a storm there is always going to be people doing this.

Imagine if you are given a chance to ensure your kids get the best education possible and are going to be provided for better than you ever could. Would you not at least consider it.

that is what happens to many poor "servants" or staff.
