PATTAYA:-- In the latest motorcycle snatch a rider grabbed a 50,000 baht gold necklace from an Iranian tourist just 500 metres from the Pattaya police station.

Witnesses said the modus operandi of the thief was to pretend to ask the way to distract the victim before grabbing the jewellery and disappearing down Pattaya 2 road.

The theft happened yesterday evening, Thursday, outside The Bayview hotel as the victim Ehsan Shahri, 28, and three Iranian friends were out for a stroll.

Witnesses said the man on the bike was about 18-20 wearing a full face helmet. He was riding a Honda bike with no licence plates. They said he pretended to ask the way but disappeared without waiting for an answer, along with the 'Thong K' necklace.

Police said that CCTV in the area was of little help but are using other cameras to track the thief down Pattaya 2 road and hope to make an arrest soon.

who wears a 50,000 baht gold neckless ?

thats like wearing a logging chain around your neck

May be when Iranian says 50 000 he really means 5000. Just like Indians walking around on the beach with 35000 cash in their pockets wink.png

not everybody walking around in Pattaya is a poor Farang who considers 50k Baht a princely sum whistling.gif

If you go to any gold shop in Thailand you will see that a 5 baht chain(76 grams) is in fact quite thin, not huge at all. Cost today, approx. 105,000 baht. Therefore, a 50,000 baht chain is like a piece of thin string and easy to break.

Who wears a 50,000 baht chain, neither I or the wife, we wear 100,000 baht chains.

Was the crash helmet transparent ?

Or is this another APRIL FOOLS

You may have noticed that all full face helmets have a transparent area at the front, where the wearer can see what's going on around him. It also allows others to see the wearer through the same part! Amazing!.

Another Iranian carrying big value stuff around in Pattaya.

Remember that story of the one at Pattaya Nuea bus station?

If Soi 2 is "close to police station" (the one that I know) then half of Pattaya is close to police station tongue.png

Instead of carrying big gold necklace they should better invest in some decent sportswear and not walk around like clowns.

They compete with the Koreans.

Asking Iranian in clowns costumes for the way in Pattaya cheesy.gif

Have you ever seen a helmet? Or experience gained through action movies ?

There is no transparent area in the front , unless visor is lifted. And in instance when visor is lifted, only eyes and nose are visible .

Why nobody produce a gold amulet with a gps-signal, which can be connected to any gold chain? And maybe the police can let walk some farang volunteers in Pattaya in civil clothes with fake gold chains and check if something happend.

Muslim men don't usually wear gold. Even their wedding rings aren't gold. I know wealthy Saudis who won't wear gold rings, chains or bracelets as its against Islam although they do allow gold cufflinks on their dish-dash. Think they allow gold watches and pens too.

So here is a tourist, from a strict Muslim country, wearing an unusual gold chain, a fairly thick/heavy chain, which he wouldn't wear at home, whilst wandering around in a holiday resort known to be somewhat risque.

Nothing unusual. Police report, insurance claim, everyone happy.

Well looking at the three Iranian men you would have to wonder how an "18" year old boy was able to just snatch it and make off without being tackled? More surprising is that the hai was brave enough to try the robbery with three to one odds against him? Not sure this stacks up.
