hey boys ;-)

its amazing how fast is going the development arround the airport.

i develop with a friend since a while a new building on King Kaew road.

in this soi was just NOBODY Before the airport was open (you know .. like in wild-west movies .. with gassballs fly arround)

1 (ONE) week after the airport Really opens up .. ALL buildings in the street was sold

and live starts up there (most are freight forwarders)

seems like noone believe in the thing until the last day ;-))

also property values changing randomized.

until last week the new airport uses the same flight directions as don-muang

(landing from North , Taking off to South)

Now they do this randomized (iam not figurred out whats the logic in it)

mean some times planes comming in from North and some times from south.

2 days after the first Plane landed from South .. the price for the same Townhouse

dropped from 1,2 M to 880K Baht ! (AMAZING)

another issue i would like to report is:

i can see the runnwayys from the building ...

yesterday where 2 landings from SOuth and a Takeoff to North at THE SAME TIME !!

Where the 3rd Runnway is NOT used, a small 757 took off by using traffic way ...

lets see when there is the first accident....

also i never saw a cargo plane there ....

is there still activity at Don Muang ??

I'm not entirely certain of my bearings, but didn't realize the runways were north/south. I thought they were closer to being east/west. But anyways, right from day one there were situations where planes would land in one direction and planes take off in the opposite direction. I experienced this on each of my trips into Suvarnabhumi. So I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. I think that during any particular time of day the take-offs and landings were always in the same direction on any particular runway, but seemed to switch over sometime during the day. Maybe it was all my imagination, especially being the airport was new and I was more preoccupied with looking at everything else rather than to be certain of the direction.

What's this about a third runway? I thought there were only two completed? Taking off from a traffic way? Are you sure? That doesn't sound like a good idea to me. BTW, I wouldn't classify a 757 as a small plane.

As to cargo planes, yes they are landing at Suvarnabhumi. I've seen reports, even saw something saying the first flight into Suvarnabhumi was a cargo plane.

hey Soju .. as i wrote ..

1. i Live Southern the Airport

and 2. work Western the Airport (just the street next to the airport)

from the building i work i can see all runnways and activity there ...

iam not read reports .. i see it with my own eyes .. and feel it if a plane is landing .. and bypassing our house ;-)

well the runnway direction is not 100% North/south .. but its very close to and 100% semilar directions to don-muang (to make parallel activity possible).

on don muang planes took off ALWAYS to the south (i lived at chiang watanna for years .. so i see with my eyes too).

in the swamp was this also the same ... until before a few days.

just now .. whle i writing this a plane passes our house while landing.

our house is southern .. so the plane comming from the seaside.

before 2 hours a plane passes our house while taking off (going to the sea)...

well .. the house is not moving at all ;-)

and is just 5 Km away from the end of the runnways ...

if the plane circeling (u turning) already ... it where not so close to the ground.

as you know the traffic is quite high.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

the first plane into Suvarnabhumi EVER

was a 757 from the Royal Thai Airforce months ago

before about 2 month the "test flight with thaksin"

was a Thai-Airways 747 before about 1 month ...

the first Official Plane in commercial proceedure (normal airport activity) was a DC-50 from Bangkok-airways,

all thai society knows this plane because it was shown

uncountable times in all thai-tv channels ;-)))

including the big suprise that the first "official plane" is NOT a Thai-Airways

but if you see WHO managing most of the ground services and catering then you will know why ;-))

From Wikipedia

Suvarnabhumi officially opened at 3:00am on September 28, 2006, taking over all flights from Don Muang. The first flight to arrive was Lufthansa Cargo flight LH8442 from Mumbai at 3:05am.
This was also reported well in the media as I recall.

I looked at Google Earth, and you're right, the runways are closer to north/south than east/west. The photos that I saw previously must have been rotated from north. Anyways, I agree that at Don Muang flights always landed from the north and took off to the south, at least in my experience.

According to published information I've read, "Segregated Parallel Approaches / Departures (Model 4) will be the standard operating mode for Suvarnabhumi International Airport." Model 4 calls for depatures only on runway 19L, with arrivals on both 19L and 19R. There are a total of seven operational models for Suvarnabhumi. Having said that, my flight last night, TG 920 HKT-BKK on a Boeing 747-400, landed on 1R, which is model 7, departures only on 1L, arrivals only on 1R.

If there is wind, observe the wind direction and you may see a pattern.

Normally, aeroplanes would land and take off into the wind, I believe.
