Rama IV Road Shooter Caught at Border

BANGKOK — Two men who opened fire on a Toyota last month on Rama IV Road were arrested Sunday morning as they attempted to flee into Myanmar.

Puritchakarn Wongdee and Panupong Chulathip were caught at the Myanmar-Thai border in Tak province’s Mae Sot district following a 10 day search that began after they shot a man six times as he drove down Rama IV Road in Bangkok.

His release will depend on an investigation of his assets which will determine whether or not he did this crime; or, if that arrest was a misunderstanding.

That they bothered to find him at all seems to indicate insufficient funds.

alternately, he has lots of funds but didn't want to part with any, so now, a little bit of pressure to loosen up the tight purse strings.

Must have plenty of money to use a helicopter for the police chief to fly from Bkk to Tak. Seems overkill.

Anybody notice the bit of the report where it says the police chief flew by helicopter from Bangkok to bring him back (the implication being that he couldn't wait to get his photo opportunities in). This country has completely f_ed up its priorities when it comes to public service. Public opinion would have linched him (the cop) if he had done it in any first world country. So third world, Thailand.

The driver survived after being shot six times --- the man who shot him was jealous over an ex GF.

So the reenactment should be to put the perp in a car then police give the surviver a gun and he can shoot the perp six times to see if he can survive.

I f they both survive then attitude ajustment finished.

So these two goons thought it would be a good idea to swim across the Moei river underneath the bridge so they don't have to spend 30 Baht on a border pass to cross the border legally?

And surely, if they wanted to flee with only a low chance of getting caught, wouldn't it have made more sense to choose a more isolated area? There are hundreds of km of relatively unpatrolled wilderness along the Thai-Myanmar frontier where crossing the border would be much easier than in a well patrolled area like Mae Sot.

Really, darwinism comes to mind here.

No, what do you think they would have done in the west, put him on an 8 hour bus ride across the mountains back to Mo Chit, so he can flee at the first toilet stop?

These fugitives were attempting to cross into Myanmar (not sure why they chose Myanmar but anyway) hoping to blend into the local population so clearly they are a flight risk. The police chief coming up by helicopter, which wouldn't take much more than 1.5-2 hours is a much more efficient way of travelling to an area 500km from Bangkok to pick up some known fugitives from justice.

If you ask me, if I were a bus passenger and there was a bunch of dangerous criminals with me on the bus because the police chief wants to save the department's budget, I'd be scared and outraged. I'm sure anyone in the west would be too, if what you are implying were to happen there.
