BANGKOK: -- A body stuffed into a suitcase was found in the Khlong Ong Ang canal on Sunday, and police have the dead man was likely a drug mule.

55 packages weighing between 10 and 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine were found wrapped in plastic bags in the body’s stomach, with a number of them reportedly burst, reports the Bangkok Post.

Initial forensics suggest that the ruptured bags lead to the man’s death by acute drug intoxication.

Such findings indicate the man had been intending to smuggle the crystal meth using the ‘body packing’ technique, whereby the drug is swallowed in small packages in order to escape detection. It’s a very dangerous practice that can cause certain death if any of the packages rupture.

That's a lot of merchandise to simply put into a suitcase and throw into a khlong.

If I were the big boss, I would've [had some lackey] cut him open [while I looked the other way, probably in an different room with my fingers in my ears] to retrieve the merchandise [and wash it thoroughly before giving it to me] before [having some lackey] disposing of the evidence!

BANGKOK — A man discovered floating in a Bangkok canal died of a drug overdose when the meth packets in his stomach burst, forensic police said yesterday.

Although police have yet to identify the body found Sunday, they found about 800 grams of ice, a powerful type of methamphetamine, in 58 packets in its stomach. Director of Institute of Forensic Medicine Pornchai Sutheerakhun said the man died from an overdose.

Asian man found dead inside luggage in city canal might be drug runner

BANGKOK: -- An Asian man whose body was found inside a large luggage in Klong Ong Ang canal is now suspected to be a drug trafficker.

This was based on the finding of about 60 methamphetamine pills inside his stomach and anus by the Institute of Forensic Medicine after an autopsy was conducted to find the cause of death.

Samramrat police who are in charge of investigation said the man might attempt to smuggle the drugs through swallowing the substance in plastic bags to avoid police detection.

But the plastic bag might be torn or leaked, thus causing him sudden shock and died.

Other members of the gang then concealed his body inside the luggage and dumped into the canal, fearing of being caught.

Police said the victim might be a Pakistani, a Bangladeshi, a Nepalese or a Rohingya and they are looking through all entries records during the past four days because a witness told police the luggage was seen in the canal four days ago.

Acting Metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn confirmed the death from drug overdosing after the plastic bags containing drugs found inside his stomach was broken.

He called a meeting to wrap up latest developments of the case at Samranrat police station today.

At the meeting, murder was ruled out as autopsy result revealed that wounds on the body was caused by animal bites after his death.

He was earlier suspected of being murdered after stab wounds were found.

Police mentioned that as " One avenue of investigation-" which you insisted on the prior thread they meant it as an established fact-obvious to me it was not.

Seems this was drug business gone wrong. That's a lot of product to go swimming, did he decide to go it alone in defiance to someone else's instructions- and they didn't know where the drugs were?

This is BS. The original article stated how his body was beat up all over. So how do they explain that part? Maybe the bags burst from the trauma of being beaten to death. Or were the beaters some untouchables? Yet another case of lack of justice in Thailand.

I'm in agreement with Bluespunk on this. The RTP is often much too vocal about their unsubstantiated theories. They could benefit (and at the least, appear more professional) by revealing much less in the early stages.

But everyone wants their little piece of fame.

I knew you would post on this.......you were only curious in a previous thread as to why they thought property deal....copped some shit for it too!

I think like jameslebrock........You would of thought they might of cut the body open and retrieved the immense merchandise!

Bu then again.......How BIG are these players!

And bluespunk had a right to ask a curious question so early in the investigation!

You turned something simple into a battle of semantics!

The BIB deserve ridicule when they postulate theories based on nothing more that guess work.

But it's likely he shoved himself in the bag??!! and beat himself up first!?!?

if he died of an overdose, then not murder!.........i don't think anyone beat him up.Injuries i think(?) were made during disposal of body.

hey.....maybe even pre-existingunsure.png

If he died bc of what the police say he died of, no need to dispose of any body! Just leave him where he lie. The original story said he had trauma all over his body and was stuffed in a bag. The story of plastic bags bursting inside his body is equivalent to farang committing "suicide ". There are guilty parties out there, but they live to see another day because the RT"P" are completely inept and worse criminals than actual criminals.

Not trying to be intentionally morbid, but if a mule dies with what appears to be over 2.5 million baht worth of drugs inside them, and their handlers are willing to stuff the dead body in a suitcase, I'm pretty sure they would be willing to get the drugs out first.
