Highway department unveils traffic app, facilitating increased travels

BANGKOK, 6 April 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Highways (DOH) has unveiled a traffic checking application to facilitate an increase in traffic volume during the Songkran holidays, allowing commuters to monitor traffic conditions prior to traveling.

The DOH Deputy Director-General for Maintenance Sarawut Songsivilai has revealed the department’s plan to facilitate the public's travels during Songkran Holidays, through measures that will be enacted before the holidays and sustained even after the Songkran festival is over.

The DOH will provide information to road users and survey road conditions and maintenance prior to the holidays. Additionally, 200 service points will be made available to facilitate road users during Songkran, operating around the clock during 8-18 April 2016.

The DOH has also developed the Thailand Highway Traffic application, available for Android and iOS devices, which will update the traffic conditions and locate service points to all users, in order to plan their journey in advance.

Motorways in Thailand will not be collecting toll fees during 9-17 April 2016, while road users are encouraged to study the condition of roads and consider alternate routes, as well as observing instructions from officials to maximize their safety and convenience during the long holidays.

i just downloaded it on Android. English version is about 40% English.

lots of traffic "flow" data. it must be the same data for traffic conditions you see on google maps.

current speed listed at a camera near me is "127 kph". north of Cha-Am on highway 4.

you can see traffic cams live which is cool.

wow! i just saw a huge wreck! didn't take long.

Let this be the first post to forecast a big uptick in traffic accidents as locals try to drive while consulting the app on their smart phones.
