Mae Hong Son prepared for wildfire & haze

MAE HONG SON, 7 April 2016 (NNT) - The northern province of Mae Hong Son has prepared itself for a second round of wildfire and haze.

Control teams are on standby to lessen haze. Firefighting helicopters and trucks are already in place. Local administrative organizations and related bodies have been instructed to arrange firefighting equipment to help in the wildfire and haze control operation.

Officials are focusing their attention on mountainous areas and forests, as dry leaves and undergrowth are highly flammable during the dry season. The second round of wildfire and haze is likely to be worse than the previous one, due to the spread of wildfires from neighboring countries and the continued use of the slash and burn agricultural technique despite a ban on all forms of burning.
