BANGKOK: A taxi driver who was accused of sexually harassing a female passenger has his driving license revoked, fined and is facing criminal charge.

Mr Nanthapong Cherdchu, deputy director general of Land Transport Department, said Friday that the department in coordination with the military and the police had summoned the taxi driver for questioning after the passenger whose name was withheld posted a message in the social that the cabbie of a taxi with license plate Mor Chor 4534 sexually harassed her as she was riding on the car from Charunsanitwong to Amporn Garden on April 6.

The cabbie, identified as Suriya Parnkasem, confessed as accused. Then he was fined, had his driving license withdrawn and was taken into police custody on charge of sexual harassment, said Mr Nanthapong.

He disclosed that the department had, so far, suspended the driving licenses of 266 taxi drivers and revoked the licenses of five cabbies for acting improperly towards their passengers.

BANGKOK:-- A Bangkok court has let a taxi driver walk free after he was caught playing with himself sexually by a passenger filming in the back of his taxi.

A Facebook post of the incident caused a storm of controversy from Wednesday after the passenger revealed what had happened on the 'Nawarat Punyaratchatapreeda' page, reports Daily News.

Officials at the land department soon investigated the incident and finding there was a case to answer referred the matter to the Dusit district court.

The driver of the taxi - Suriya Pankasem,49, whose licence lists him as a Bang Na resident - admitted his actions in performing an indecent act in front of a passenger whilst driving.

In a swift decision yesterday he was initially given a one month jail term and 5,500 baht fine but these were halved due to his admission.

And in a move that angered many outraged netizens the jail term was further suspended for a year as Suriya was of previous good behaviour and this was his first offence.

He has to report to the court every three months.

Many posters called the sentence too lenient.

How could he not admit it ?

He was filmed. Is that not proof ?

2750 Baht fine and that's the end of it.

The purpose of these minute fines is ? Deterrent ? Punishment ?

No wonder crime is in all directions. Just do what you want when you want.

So masturbating in public, first offence, is a weak slap on the wrist.

Hmmm.

Its not his wrist that needs slapping. He proved it works well. He was slapping something himself !!

People like him are a danger for society, mind you, this 'playful' behavior could escalate quickly in improper exposure to anyone.......and more.

Be it your little girl or boy or the oldtimers next door.

And THEN and only THEN Thai media and the cops are on state alert.........and still no clues who sexually assaulted and raped a bunch of old women in the North East.

Lock him up, before its to late.

Not long ago a mother wanted to sue someone who filmed her kid having sex in the classroom and then posted it on Facebook.

Does that mean this taxi driver can sue the passenger?

Also can she be charged with uploading porno?

I hope not, but this is Thailand and anything can happen.

Anyway he should get a harsh punishment as people in these jobs should be able to be trusted.

This is something I also don't understand.

Sure, if you have a crime that is hard to proof and difficult to close if nobody speaks you want to reward the person who admits guilt as that saves time for the detective to build the case and find evidence.

But in this case everything is clear from the start, so why half his sentence when he admits to it? Its a clear case already, so even when he admits he should get the full term.

Is this thainess or just pure stupidity?

Why not go to a karaoke bar and show his filthy little wiener to a waitress there, she even might like it.

No, it's not "proof".

Such a video recording does not count as evidence. It merely serves as indication for the prosecution to make a case

For video recording to be considered as direct evidence in a Thai court of law, the deed must be recorded by two independent devices from different angels and have certain quality marks.

The guy is sick, as in mentally ill and should be taken in by a psych. ward, however Thailand is not really well equipped in that department. Thats why many loonies are wandering around the highways all over the country as well as along the streets of Bangkok. Sad but true...
