Arrived in Penang this evening.. sent by agent with paperwork for a non-imm b. Thought i would stop

by an agent just to ask if they would do it, instead of my going.. went to Jim's on Chulia. He asked

where is the wp 3 form from the Ministry of Labour? i said the agent told me i didn't need it. He was

not pleased. (i asked the agent before leaving why i didn't have it, and she said the same, it wasn't

needed..) his exact words were.. Please tell agents to stop sending people here without wp-3 forms..

it wastes their time and their money.

He let me borrow his phone to call the agent. She still insisted it wasn't needed and wants me to go

to the embassy tomorrow to try. i personally would rather not waste any more time and money than
i already have.. but i will go, and ask.

Care to advise?

You could ask the agent around the corner from Chulia on Lebuh Leith (travel agent about 50 meters up on the left hand side). They seem to be the real agent who deals with the applications from a lot of the pseudo agents on Chulia. That said, Jim's Place is very experienced, and I cannot imagine why he would turn down work if the WP-3 was not a requirement. I expect your agent in Thailand is mistaken, but does not want to lose face by admitting it. One reason why I do not trust agents' advice on anything except local rules is because they are often wrong.

yes, think Jim's place is very experienced, he knows his stuff. he was adamant the agent had made a mistake. and yes, don't think he'd turn down work for no good reason.

Perhaps you should send this link to the agent and tell him to read number 12 under the requirements to get a non-b visa in Penang. http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/services-20140508-110623-169095.pdf

All nearby embassies and consulate require a work permit application approval letter to get a non-b visa if working for a company. The nearest one I know of that don't want it is Hong Kong.

having known Jim for years on Koh Phangan and used him as my visa agent in penang for almost as many, he will push through anything he can.

If he wont touch it without the form, you need the form.

well, the official was not very pleased and asked for some other documents which the agent had not given me, but he did grant the visa.

i don't recommend going unless you have all the proper documentation that is required. it's not worth the time, money, hassle just to

try your luck, better to be properly prepared.

Congratulations, and thanks for the report.

It confirms my view that Penang, while not always providing smiling service, does lean towards helping those applying whenever they reasonably can.

yes, just like to add that people in general in Penang, in my experience this past couple of days, went out of their way to help me

and did so with genuine kindness. Jim went out of his way to advise me, a very kind man gave me a lift back to town when he saw

me walking, and others who were genuinely friendly and helpful even the taxi drivers were courteous and professional.

learn the rapid buses you dont have to walk or catch a taxi anywhere

hmm ok you have to walk along cantonment road to thai embassy. but not too far.

Cantonment Road is a hot, 10-minute walk, but it is in a bit of an out-of-the-way location. Overall, I agree. Transport services in Penang are very good once you know the routes.

Thank you! I just happen to like to walk, so i try to do so in other places to get a good perspective of the area

and to know my way around. the guesthouse staff showed me the route on google maps but said that google
had it somewhat wrong because the road was one way. i found a reasonable route the old fashioned way,

on a map. Chulia - Penang - Burma to Lorong Macalister to Jalan Macalister to Cantonment to the small
street the consulate is on. and the taxi was shared with two others on leaving the consulate so, not too bad.

the bus system is quite good, took it to and from the airport. cheers.
