NRSA optimistic about criticisms against additional question in referendum

q.jpg

BANGKOK, 11 April 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is not disconcerted by the disagreement some people have shown towards the additional question to be included in the public referendum.

First deputy speaker of the NRSA Alongkorn Ponlaboot has remarked that the expression of public opinion is a good sign as it shows that democracy is gradually returning to the country. He said one shouldn’t think that disagreement is a sign of segregation, but should look at it in a more constructive manner.

In response to a criticism that it may be too difficult for some people to understand the additional question in the referendum, Mr Alongkorn said he believes the Thai people now have better understanding towards the charter and the referendum than they did in the past and that one should never assume or judge others’ ability to understand.

"it shows that democracy is gradually returning to the country."

Why was it taken away in the first place ?

Because the country repeatedly selected the"wrong"people to govern them.

It is now being returned in a "reformed" way so that with "appropriate guidance" only the "good people" can form a government, irrespective of who the people actually choose.

Your boss is arbitrarily incarcerating people in secret locations for an unknown length of time without even the semblance of due process when they voice their disagreement so why don't you try telling him that?!

They certainly do:

In a Suan Dusit Poll 60.92% of respondents are not sure that the draft constitution of Meechai Ruchupan’s Constitution Drafting Committee will be accepted in a referendum. Furthermore, 16.46% believe the draft will be rejected.

In a Bangkok Post Poll only 34.5% will vote “Yes” for the charter, 8% will vote “No” while 21% will abstain, and 36.5% remain uncertain.

And this is why the government's Plan B is to simply develope another draft and bypass the public referendum for endorsement should Meechai's draft fail the referendum.

Yes, a very good summary of the charter.

Of course even the referendum in which the charter is the subject is a sham. If a no vote is the result, they will activate a revised charter without a referendum...
