Report Thailand's Medical Council Enforces Discipline in Thaksin Hospital Case
File photo for reference only The Medical Council of Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to disciplinary measures against three doctors involved in the contentious transfer of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from prison to hospital. This decision, announced today, overturns a previous veto by Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin, reflecting the council's determination to uphold its earlier stance. Professor Dr. Prasit Wattanapha, Vice President of the Medical Council, confirmed that a two-thirds majority vote maintained the resolution originally passed on May 8, 2025. The resolution called for suspending the medical licenses of two senior doctors at Police General Hospital, accusing them of exaggerating Mr. Thaksin's medical condition to justify his prolonged hospital stay. Additionally, a doctor from the Corrections Department Hospital received a formal warning for her alleged misuse of authority in the transfer process. Out of 69 eligible members, 68 participated in the vote, underscoring the council's unified position. This decisive vote paves the way for the issuance of a binding order to enforce these disciplinary actions. The council’s steadfast decision highlights the importance of accountability and ethical standards in medical practice, particularly concerning high-profile cases. As the next steps unfold, the Medical Council's actions serve as a reminder of the essential role of regulatory bodies in maintaining the integrity of healthcare services in Thailand. Kennedy appoints CDC panel members who have criticized vaccines & spread misinformation
Good. The whole pandemic reaction was not science driven. Anyone who questioned the narrative were conspiracy theorists. Time for real independent science to formulate health policy not politicians and bureaucrats. -
