CDC's Thitipan unworried about question to be asked at public referendum on new draft charter

BANGKOK, 18 April 2016 (NNT) - A member of the Constitution Drafting Commission has expressed no worries about the dispute over the question, which has been proposed to be included in the public referendum on the new draft charter.

CDC member Thitipan Chuaboonchai said that he is not worried about the question of “Should senators be able to select a prime minister?”, which the National Legislative Assembly has proposed to ask voters at the upcoming referendum.

Mr. Thitipan said the question was considered a separate matter from the content of the draft Constitution while expressing his belief that the people will understand the entire process if all involved effectively clarify the issues before the referendum takes place.

He also noted that the results of the public referendum and the answer to the attached question may not come out in the same direction, but the ultimate decision is within the discretion of the public, at the end of the day.

No it's not.

DPM Wisanu said that if the draft was rejected in the referendum the government would amend the draft and have it promulgated into law without another referendum.

This coincides with Prayuth's comment that he has the power to decide what to do if the charter is rejected in the Aug. 7 referendum.

At the end of the day the public is only a bystander.

The additional question should be part of a referendum prior to the draft referendum and it's result should be known before people decide on the charter, as this is a key issue.

Edit: what the hell am I doing here, the referendum offers no choice whatsoever and the additional question will not be heeded in any meaningful way.

Put up, shut up, accept it swallow it, don't resist...

“Should senators be able to select a prime minister?”,

Mr. Thitipan said the question was considered a separate matter from the content of the draft Constitution.

Because, as we all know, the selection process for Prime Minister is rarely covered in the Constitution for a parliamentary form of government.

More confusion from the clarification squad.
