MOPH warns public about post-Songkran diseases

BANGKOK, 18 April 2016, (NNT) - Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoen warned the public about post-Songkran diseases, particularly pneumonia and pink eye.

He said people who participated in water play during the recently concluded Songkran festival have a chance to develop these diseases, which thrive in warm and wet conditions. Dr. Suwanchai urged holidaymakers to take extra care of themselves, warning that an unattended fever can develop into pneumonia.

The ministry recommends bed rest for those with persistent fever, fatigue, headache, stuffy nose and sore throat, as well as using a handkerchief to cover their face when sneezing to prevent the spread of the disease. If these symptoms last longer than three days, those affected are strongly advised to seek medical attention.

Similarly, the MOPH Deputy Permanent Secretary stated that pink eye patients should avoid sharing belongings with others for at least a week and see an optometrist if the symptoms persist.

Symptoms of pink eye include redness in the white of the eye or inner eyelid, more tears, thick yellow discharge that crusts over the eyelashes, itchy and burning eyes, and blurry vision.

"warned the public about post-Songkran diseases,"

Such as water in the brain?

Great news ! nice if they warned people prior to Songkran and all the dirty water being slashed around !!!!

Only plan for the day. T.I.T.

Is he an actual MD ? Unattended fever can become pnemonia? Maybe it is a translation issue.

Especially the public beaver eater in Pattaya recently. Could be any manner of post Songkran diseases he might have picked up.Red eye might be the least of his problems.

Songkran has not concluded, Pattaya water fight tomorrow Tuesday and areas south of Pattaya Wednesday, they are crazy days with no respect for anybody, young, old, or imfirmed . Big water canons ruled illegal a few years ago still in use by expats at bars, Ice in the water. I love fun but Pattaya is no longer fun, expats and ladyboys have spoilt it.

.

pneumonia and pink eye? Was looking for a warning about the VD being spread during Songkran...

Spent a wet and wild Songkran bumping, grinding and dirty dancing with nubile petite teen ladies. Will now check in to the nearest clinic pronto.

Not sure, but isn't this the same guy who yesterday told people with a hangover (i.e. still drunk) that it is O.K. to drive if you drink some warm water and eat porridge (rice soup?). He must really be desperate to see his name in print! (And if he is an MD, he should be disbarred.)

People are amazing! I know many people (usually girls) play water getting completely soaked for 3 days - no problem! A couple of days later it rains and they cover their head and body and rush indoors as they will get a fever. Where is the logic? Admittedly there is NO LOGIC here.

That's the spirit....enjoy!!!
