I was very interested in yesterdays headline about impending 'Summer Storms' sweeping the country between April 18 to April 21. -

Have to travel south from Udon Thani, so definitely of interest. But at the moment (1pm Tuesday 19) it is very quiet here in this part of Isaan.

I'd welcome any reports from the whole area predicted to be in line for this big weather event - anyone got a storm already ? Anyone believing it is on the way ? Cheers!

We live about 100 km south of Udon.

Yesterday:

first I heard that there were reports in Thai TV about storms in the Udon or Nong Khai area.

About an hour later we had some storm here.

But just blowing some junk around, not fierce.

Temperatures also dropped only for some hours.

No rain, no hail.

Currently cloudy, about 37 C.

Thai Met has raised probability for precipitation to 30%.

A "record value" this year.

I don't think you should be too worried.

There has been more than one false alarm this year already.

Thanks for that. Very much the same across most the area i think. Back to the heat and sun today so far!

sincerely hope we get as much rain as possible in Chiang Mai, the smoke here is still hazardous to breathe... one of the worst days of the year was yesterday! This late!

It's p*ssing down currently in Mae Rim, just north of Chiang Mai, heavy winds also.

Cheers - so it might be working its way down north to south, which was what the forecast was given it's entering from China. As Cheesekraft says, maybe a blessing for those of you up there with the smoke issue !

These short wind storms are very localised. They normally precede an oncoming thunderstorm and can last from 20 minutes up to an hour. It`s just luck whether they miss an area or not. Last year a local 7/11 had it`s windows blown out and the store is only a few hundred metres from where I live in Chiang Mai.

They seem to become more severe each year and now when I hear thunder in the distance I start getting worried.

The are becoming more intense, we lost a tree to one last week and doubtless we'll loose others before it's all done, actually quite scary to see how powerful they are.

I live in rural Khampaeng Phet about 65 km from the city and next to the Mae Wong national park.

About 3.15 yesterday afternoon the power went out and the strong winds started. By 3.30 the wind was very strong and the rain was coming down though there wasn't a lot of it.

By 3.45 it was all over and a bit cooler. The power came back about 5 and went out again at 6.30 for another 1 1/2 hours.

More storms are forecast for today but otherwise it is hot and dry as normal.

We had a big dump of rain last night and a little wind yesterday afternoon.

It was nice to have some cooling wind instead of all the heat. Not enough rain though

Terrible frightening storm.

Mate was in Landmark Plaza when the lights went off. They have a generator fortunately.

With a few exceptions here and there, the entire planet seems to be really dry this year. Just look at Alberta. Fires are going to rage all over the SW US this summer, more than likely, as it has continued to be bone dry. LA got 6 inches of rain all season, this year. My guess is that we will not see really heavy rains this year here either.

But, I sure hope I am wrong. We sure need it. The entire country needs it. Notice how little fruit there is this year? A lot of farmers and orchard owners are hurting right about now.

Personally, I am convinced that global warming is a reality, and that it is caused by primarily by the actions of man, industry, waste, lack of respect for the seas, etc. Regardless of what the naysayers proclaim, I see it all around me. The heat, the lack of rainfall, the frequency of bizarre extreme storms, etc. Just using the power of my rational mind, it is hard to conceive of the possibility that our atmosphere and environment would be completely resistant to all of the junk we are throwing at it.

Gore, like Michael Moore, is probably guilty of exaggerating the facts. Moore rarely is bothered by the facts. But, Gore probably did a valuable service by bringing attention to the problem.
