I'm in the middle of setting this up but someone at the bank warned me that if I am British, I can't buy shares in British companies or ones that are on the FTSE. He also said other nationalities can't buy shares in companies from their home country. This seems very strange and I don't really believe it. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

I can not believe it. I have an account with SCB which is used by my broker to buy and sell shares. But I only trade in Thai shares. I have my broker in the UK who buys and sells UK shares for me. I would think that buying UK shares through a bank or broker here would be pretty expensive.
