Cabinet ministers visit gold mines in 3 provinces

PHETCHABURI, 25 April 2016 (NNT) – Three cabinet ministers have traveled to three provinces in the upper central part of Thailand to jointly inspect gold mines and gather input from the locals about the mining operations.

Industry Minister Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, and Public Health Minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn paid inspection visits to gold mines in Phetchaburi, Phichit, and Phitsanulok in order to assess the impact that mining operations have on local people. These gold mines are owned by Akara Resources Public Company Limited.

After the inspection, the three ministers met with the locals and asked for their opinions to be used in the decision-making on whether the company’s license should be extended.

Around 2,000 people including employees of Akara Resources Company were seen holding up signs and banners supporting the company. They claimed that they had been treated well and that their living standards had been significantly improved since the start of the operations.

The findings and results of their inspection will be forwarded to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Why no opposition numbers ?

a consencus !

WOW !

All those uniforms!

All those free samples!

So, not a surprise visit then?

Just the military and big business collaborating, and the "little people" expressing their heartfelt gratitude.

All those uniforms!

All those free samples!

All those uniforms , a photo shoot of the Cabinet would look like a Thai challenge for America's cup

The use of employees carrying banners on behalf of their employer is certainly not a good look , their sole purpose is to provide labour for the mine to operate , not promote the company, the situation has deteriorated over a decade with Pitchet operations and you have to ask why , since Akara has taken the reigns and being run by Thai's there has been a notable increase in strife , these unelected representatives will do nothing, the Health , Mining and Environment departments have failed in their duty of care countless times over the decades , where mining is concerned in Thailand , one wonders if the contaminated lead in groundwater from other mining area's, complained about by villagers 8 years ago has ever been cleaned up as promised......................................................................coffee1.gif .

What happened to the schoolgirl who made the documentary about pollution from a mining operation, is she in prison yet ?

More likely just stopping by to pick up their share in person. gigglem.gif

Nice doggy bags

I bet Yin-luck was really pissed off about missing that little 'shopping trip.

You know you really must try harder...

I'm sure natural resources exploitation in the Provinces is in actual fact a real "goldmine" for the politicians in power - even if they are mining something as prosaic as potash!
