No honey no money - angry bees kill "expert" in Thailand's North East

BUENG KAN:-- An "expert" honey collector was stung to death by bees in Bueng Kan, northeastern Thailand on Sunday.

Police and medics were called to a rubber plantation in the downtown area where they found the lifeless body of 46 year old Jatupong Khongban lying near the remains of a fire beneath a tree, reports Daily News.

His face, head, arms and legs were all swollen and covered in the tell-tale marks of bee stings. Two of his friends survived but were also stung by the bees.

Police said that the three men had gone out on an expedition to collect honey by smoking out a large variety of bees known as "pheung luang" in Thai. They had come upon a large nest and the men, described as experts with much experience in smoking out bees, had set about their work.

As Jatupong shinned up the tree to dislodge the nest and his friends waited with their equipment below the angry bees attacked him.

They were collecting a variety of prized and valuable honey known as "fifth month honey." Jatupong's body was released to relatives for cremation.

And they are all still working REALLY hard to figure out who they can blame for this....

If they missed out the 'angry bees kill expert' out of the headline, a lot more people would click on the topic.

Expert my a..e.

Typical local thinking he knows best.

Maybe they were Burmese bees.

Maybe they were using the wrong kind of leaves for the smoke?

The guys that removed a massive nest from my house rafters used special "Magic" leaves, that apparently gives off "Magic" Smoke!

They wore no masks, they only wore T-shirts and jeans, not even a pair of flip flops, pretty amazing to watch, they got stung a few times but compared to the millions of angry bees, not a lot. I wouldn't have done it for a million dollars.

This is a professional risk for honey collectors. Looks like an insuffient dose of smoke was applied.

Definitely African bees, nasty pieces of the insect kingdom. Thai bees would never harm anyone.

Someone died here..."No honey...no money"...is a flippant title that dishonors this man...

Show some respect...

Experts know better. Just because you do something many times doesn't make you an expert. If anything you get complacent. Complacency kills. May this fellow rest in piece. Hell of a way to go.

Africanized Bees are found as close as Western Asia but so far I have not found any report of them here in East Asia yet.

I suspect they were all ladyboy bees.

Have to agree. We are not allowed to criticize the moderators here, but I don't believe I can get yet another 30-day suspension for criticizing the effin idiot who came up with this headline.

....No money no honey- angry bees kill

title reserved for Thai gals....just switch place with the nouns ..

And they are all still working REALLY hard to figure out who they can blame for this....

No Thaibee would do such a thing.

The lack of respect your bemoan is commensurate with the level of respect these three uneducated and unskilled yokels showed for the bees.

"Uneducated" "unskilled" "yokels"

Your hi-so biases deserve even less respect.
