Senior American Cancer Sufferer Commits Heart-breaking Suicide

PATTAYA: -- At 10.30 AM on 26th April 2016 Pol Lt. Chakrit Chantakam Deputy Inspector Inquiry – Muang Pattaya was informed that a senior American citizen had shot himself with a handgun.

The heart-breaking incident happened behind Platong Flats, Sukhumvit Road KM. 9 at Central Pattaya.

At the scene, the deceased senior citizen Mr. John Diller of American nationality was found leaning against a wall wearing a grey T Shirt and jeans with a bullet wound on the left of his chest.

At the feet of the 75 year old American, Pattaya police found one napkin and a handgun, 1 used shell, and another used shell nearby. Furthermore police also found a sealed suicide letter saying that he was tired of being ill, the painkillers were becoming increasingly less effective and that he wanted to end his life.

Mr. Diller wrote that he had retrieved the gun from a friend who had passed away the previous year.

Sad.

But why do these PattayaONE idiots have to depict his full personal data and most of his testimony fully readable bah.gif

Really disgusting of Pattaya One to post his letter for the whole world to ogle at. His name, address, specific health ailments..... and just imagine the creeps who are calling his girlfriend's phone nr as you're reading this.

Whilst totally inappropriate to publish his final letter, it gives us a tiny look at who this man was. He sounded like a considerate gentle man with a loving heart and his words moved me.

I know he is happier now with no pain and if there is a God, I hope he is there now.

I never knew you sir but a little bit of you is inside me now after reading your words. I think I would have liked you if I had met you. Rest in peace sir. wai.gif

Two used shells but only one wound. Did he miss the first time? Also has any one ever heard of a suicide where the person shoots himself through the chest? Normally it is through the head. Something here does not seem right to me

His girlfriend's phone number is shown.

That's outrageous! bah.gif

Totally agree, really irresponsible reporting, and the photo of the fat oik pointing at the body...UNNECESSARY!!!

If I wanted to kill myself I'd shoot through the heart as no way you'd survive that so seems perfectly believable to me.

R.I.P. My deepest respect for this guy. Unfortunately we are still waiting for medical clinics, where we can book our final travel, when life get´s to painful.

Some disrespectful posts about how and where to kill yourself with a gun bah.gif

Ever thought that not every suicidal person is coldblooded enough to target precisely?

It's unfortunate that medically supervised suicide is illegal in Thailand. This man appears to have gone through allot of pain and suffering the past couple years and I can understand his wanting to end his life. There are options, whoever, for those who seek such assistance...The Netherlands, Switzerland, and the state of Oregon allow people with terminal illnesses or diseases to die with dignity.

Poor chap, and disgusting media reporting with the suicide note and personal details in full view, is this still Howard's paper? Have some respect please

What is all the fuss about...the letter and phone number...this was a foreigner who receives no respect from the folks of LOS...

Many countries are allowing people who are living with illnesses that produce constant unrelieved suffering to die with dignity...assisted by medical professionals...

Sad for the man...RIP

RIP cobber

firearm suicides, are not pleasent, for the ill or those who attend later.

a device similar to a morphine driver, is a beautiful controlled passing.

cannot criticise thailand as many western countries still refuse those in pain a dignified passing.

It happens, not too often but some people do not dare to aim for their own head, understandably.

The 2nd shell is indeed a bit off and mysterious but might be explained in a later follow-up article.

Maybe he tried if the gun was working and fired a bullet in the air/ceiling or outside into a tree first?

Yes, a legal humane way for medical suicide sounds good on paper, but the reality is there are dangers of abuse ... which can end up with people being offed just because they become a burden.

Do you actually know the details about the procedures? There are very strict controls...including double medical evaluations and psychological screenings for a start...and the patient themself is the only one who can actually "press the button." A much more dignified way to go, when the time comes, than blowing one's brains out.

I agree with you, but it's necessary the note be made available in its entirety for full CSI: TVF review as part of their usual thorough investigation into the event. Without it, the police dare not speculate as to cause of death, but as they usually do, then a particularly virulent group would need to invade the thread: the paranoids afflicted with Tic-Related Police Conspiracy OCD (TRPCOCD). With the phone number given, the note looks much less like--a forgery!

So this way we're spared a dozen pages of half-baked theories and attempts to finger the wife/girlfriend/bargirl/ladyboy.

I know partially how he must have felt. I am a cancer survivor. I can only imagine the pain he was in to make him take his life. RIP sir. I hope your life was full of happiness before this.

Pattaya One....bad form. Have some damn respect for the deceased. Use another picture or blur this stuff out. Showing all this personal info is truly disgusting.

Nothing about this is newsworthy except to his family and friends, and they didn't read about it here.

It is newsworthy because it was a suicide and done in a public place.

Dying of old age or disease in a hospital is not newsworthy unless the person is famous.

It's definitely newsworthy for several reasons, not the least being his very personal note explaining the reasons, that heading off the noxious avalanche of, who done it posts.

in 2015 5516 people died by way of euthanesia in the Netherlands.

Euthanesia is only allowed when the assisting doctor is convinced that the request has been well thought out and when the person is suffering

unbearable pains that will not go away. Most cases are from the sufferings of cancer.
