NCPO: Military's handouts intended to encourage voters to join public referendum

Featured Replies

So....... any further light on what form these handouts could be ? Maybe yellow hand clappers and a free whistle.

But on second thoughts not .....too one sided.

Perhaps in order to gain more votes from a cross the color spectrum they are recycling those confiscated red bowls only now they come in red and yellow stripes with a nice logo ' vote yes .....vote junta ' with possibly a 10 baht coin superglued to the bottom.

perhaps all the contributors to this thread would like to share the contents of the handouts and explain why they think they are lies and deception by the NCPO

I think it's highly likely that the NCPO are up to no good but it would be nice to know what these "useful items" are.

Whether it's a ticket to the movies, or 200 baht, or a promise to assist them in any way if you let "US inform you of what the charter is all about", it's still a form of bribery/populist policy and is everything you have despised about the Shins that the Junta are now currently doing.

There is a law that prevents anyone countering the Junta and their reforms, nobody can ask questions nor debate it with them. It's as one sided as you can get, but then again, you know this, there's enough articles posted in all the regular news outlets, but you never seem to have a problem with it, as long as it's NOT the Shins doing it.. eh?

I actually have my doubts you actually live in Thailand.

I actually don't give a ---- what you think

One thing I do know is that the authors of the new charter have every right to explain it fully so that the people understand what they are voting for, and people who spread false interpretations lies and deflections about its content should be jailed

I am quite happy knowing who the group people are that don't favor of this new charter as it goes some way to stopping further abuse of power - corruption and theft of tax payers money and that cannot be bad no matter how you spin it

anything that stops the rot in this country is good, those that are against this charter are those that will no longer be able to rob the Thai people, huge money involved and of course not to forget that the only way Thaksin will be able to return to Thailand will be in a prison transport with a cell waiting, an evil man responsible for thousands of deaths, the people are now more informed about what goes on and they have had enough, they will make the right choice for the future of Thailand, factions and organisations are clutching at straws, people are seeing them for what they are............their days are numbered.....hello new Thailand

Wonder what the free gifts are? Hopefully not patronizing things like toothpaste or soap?

Probably red bowls repainted in camouflage

Ah yes just like all those Thai military juntas ripping up and imposing new charters has worked so well in the past...

You are seriously deluded.

Yes, clearly you're blinded by sheer ignorance, please tell me what Cheques and Balances are in place right now, and have been for the past 2 years, that has stopped this rot ?

So academics are also robbing the people blind? It's not just the red shirts who are against the charter.but then again, you only see what you want to see, you're one of the major junta cheer leaders, who cannot see them doing anything wrong.. so many scandals, corruption on numerous occasions.

You're right, people today are more informed, and they have had enough, but how about letting them make their own mind up with regards to the charter, good or bad, and debate it, but you dont want to see freedom of opinion or expression from the people with less education, as you seem to despise them. You're an extremely bigoted and blinkered old man.

Thank God people don't have to listen to your drivel. It's quite obvious your just trolling too, as I've stated on several occasions now, I doubt you even live in Thailand.

Any British person who supports a military state rather than have people be able to express themselves freely without fear of being detained for having a different opinion is nothing short of a Quisling.

support is the wrong word, I am having a preference towards one of two evils and the junta is still ahead, I might change my mind after an election, for now I wait to see if they can actually produce some sort of stable proper democracy here in Thailand and that would be a first

Fine. To clarify your analysis while you are waiting, you might start with a sheet of paper. On the left side, write down a short list of the key aspects of a "proper democracy". On the right side, write down the corresponding attributes of the Thai government system, as proposed.

Leave a large gap between the two lists. You will need it.

Here's my left side as a starter. Feel free to modify:

1. Freedom of speech, assembly, and the press.

2. Free and fair elections.

3. Government power in the hands of elected representatives.

4. Military accountable to civilian leaders

5. Independent judiciary. Right of appeal for all convicted persons.

6. Rule of law for all persons irrespective of position or status.

I think it is wonderful that there are people on TVF that take the time to give lesser people like me some good guidence, I really don't know where I'd be without it

The Thai army have failed SPECTACULARLY doing this in the past. It's the same old boys club and this is all just history repeating itself.

You're welcome. Where would we be if everybody was just in it for themselves?

Thailand perhaps.

These generals will do anything to stimulate the debate in the hope for public backing to their new rules and regulations

"anything that stops the rot in this country is good"

Absolutely. Anything that stops this arrogant, corrupt, incompetent military and puts checks on its currently unchecked power is good.

The rest of your post is nonsense.

Do you have any evidence the military is trying to "produce some sort of stable proper democracy here in Thailand"?

If not, and in view of the failures of past military governments in Thailand, why do you support the junta?
