Security man tied up in his own cuffs and attacked on Pattaya Beach Road

PATTAYA: -- Pattaya thugs stooped to new lows Thursday beating a defenceless security guard with a piece of driftwood after securing him in his own handcuffs.

And all for a theft of 200 baht.

The violent and unprovoked attack happened in full view of late night passersby on the beach opposite the Amari Hotel.

Songkran Moonsarn, 48, a guard at the Dusit Thani Hotel was on his way home after 3am walking along Beach Road as he was repeatedly assaulted then tied up and hit in the face with the bit of wood.

The attack only stopped when witnesses shouted that the police were coming and the two youths responsible took off on their motorcycle.

Police called to the scene found Songkran badly beaten and covered in blood lying in cuffs on the sand. They released him from his cuffs and treated him for his injuries at the scene before taking him to Banglamung Hospital for further help.

The security man told police at the scene that he had been walking home when a woman approached him for money for beer and he gave her some. Just a few yards on two men stopped on a motorcycle and began threatening him with violence if he did not give them money.

Terrified, he produced 200 baht but the attackers were not satisfied. They started hitting him with fists before grabbing his work handcuffs and tied him up before savagely beating him over the head with the driftwood.

Pattaya police are waiting for Songkran to recover before interviewing him again and are studying CCTV in the area to try to trace the thugs.

The entire Pattaya police farce needs to be removed and replaced by the Army or Navy to get a grip on the town....ASAP, it needs a serious tidy up that clearly the BIB are not capable of doing.

A lot could be solved by roving patrols. But, that would require the police to actually do some work instead of manning checkpoints for money.

That would require them actually doing something. Not going to happen unless someone comes up with more money to pay for it.

Thats right, and they could start at the North end - construction junk, drain pipe, garbage, sandbag beach in front of Dusit Thani resort hotel where lowlifes are camping behind the black 2 meter diameter drain pipe that runs along the back beach. Then work their way South along the beach where the

Pattaya News section is full and counting every day about the local lowlifes robbing tourists along the beach.

By the time they reach the permanent/temporary construction trailer mess at South end the army should have about five trucks full of lowlifes.

Do these security guards have the power of arrest?

If these people need handcuffs, radios, nightsticks, guns why are they not provided by their employer and left "at the office" at the end of their shifts, same with the police.

Security guard a trained security personal would have expected him to overpower a couple of youngsters with his special training for peoples security anyway hope the overworked police catch them and slap a 500Baht fine on them their next victim could be a tourist and this could ruin the impeccable Thai reputation

i think that pattaya is much safer now than it was 2-3 years ago.

At that time it was more robberys more murders, and thefts. the amount of crimes now is like 3 days of crime 2-3 years ago.

Anyone know if there is any official statement, one way or the other, on the feasibility of having police constantly patrolling beach road (or having multiple manned-desks throughout beach road). If they did this on Beach, 2nd, 3rd, north, central, south, it would be quite safe I imagine.
