KHON KAEN: -- The first offender of the Referendum Law 2016 was arrested yesterday by soldiers at her home in Khon Kaen and escorted to Bangkok to face charges.

The suspect was identified as Mrs Jiraphan Tanmanee, 59.

She is the manager of a local admistration fund in which its Facebook page was accused by the Election Commission of posting violent, rude, and aggressive messages that were considered offending the Referendum Law.

Many of the posts were convincing the people to reject the draft charter, according to EC commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn.

Upon arrested in Khon Kaen, she admitted of posting rude messages on the Facebook page without realising the law is in force.

She denied having any ambition on politics.

If found guilty, offender could face an imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of 200,000 baht and revocation of electoral right for five years.

Be careful what you say. The goons are watching, listening, reading, plotting ......................................

Oh how brave the soldiers of Thailand taking a 59 year old woman to protect the country.

i told you guys. No more comments on the referendum. BIg brother is watching

Was it really necessary to take her all the way to Bangkok? Surely they have enough facilities in Khon Kaen.

Aggressive and rude posts? Arrested and taken away.

Kill people in your car? Nothing

very sad

Instead of arresting old lady's for voicing her opinion these solders and bib should be on mass after the mongrel dogs that savagely beat a group of elderly British tourists, it's this disgusting behavior that is hurting the country, not old lady's on FB...

If you've seen the cctv footage you know what I'm talking about.

when do the 0200 hours arrests start.

top level arrest, the dark forces showing their hand.

what next, social media texting high school students arrested at the bus queue.

Greedy, blood-sucking parasites are concerned with feeding off their hosts, not worrying about a few white dogs.

The trough is more important to a Thai power grubber more than a gift horse. Stupid gift horses always come back but the trough may be gone forever unless something is done about bogeymen on social media.

It appears that more and mor people are starting to make their dissastisfactions against the gov't heard...it will be very interesting to see what happens when those numbers grow to a point where the "prisons" can't accomodate the masses

....revocation of electoral right....

Wow. Where some countries are establishing a proper way for even prison inmates to vote (they're citizens after all), this is absurb.

I guess here, your democratic right is what the leadership determines it to be.

Other than fascists / socialist leadership, can't think of any place else this is practised.

Why are there not major TV commercials sponsored by western governments showing elderly being carted off , with the captions like ""don't support a regime that's doing away with freedom of speech "?

Instead we are encouraged to go to this place and part with our money and not ""think too much""

Instead we see smooth as silk ads and elephants and smiling Thais cooking in woks , and honest Tuk Tuk drivers doing temple tours.

The grim truths are not far from being told to the masses.

These people being arrested will eventually be brought to the worlds consciousness .

And the image of Thailand will darken .

And the military won't come out looking shiny anymore .

I don't think so, if it was true then that police man who got his gf killed would be made an example of too

.....'manages a fund'.....say no more......

An off topic post has been removed as well as the replies. Inflammatory posts were removed as well.

N Korea and China have quite similar laws on rude posting of their leaders. Rude posting of a draft law ! Now that is being creative and innovative. Will be highly admired by peer countries.

The entire population has had their electoral rights revoked since 2014

It's probably only a question of time.

How does one "offend" a referendum law, put in place by an illegal and undemocratic elected "government"

Aggressive and rude posts? Arrested and taken away.

Kill people in your car? Nothing

Well, as long as you kill someone who is not important.

It appears that more and mor people are starting to make their dissastisfactions against the gov't heard...it will be very interesting to see what happens when those numbers grow to a point where the "prisons" can't accomodate the masses

On the positive side, more Thais are being awakened from their apathy regarding their politics. My lawyer has formed a new group with other lawyers whereby they go into schools and educate children on human rights (something they've picked up from foreign media I suspect). So, silver linings and all that.

How does one "offend" a referendum law, put in place by an illegal and undemocratic elected "government"

Poor little referendum law, had its feelings hurt.

Sorry should have said "unelected" - it's that time of the morning after a heavy afternoon/evening binge..burp.gif
