Arriving at BKK at 13:40 and need go to Vientiane. I'm carrying A 30KG check-in baggage and BangkokAir allows max 20KG (following their website) also they only fly the next day, what may be my best option?

Anyone who can tell what they charge for overweight?

Next flight to VTE would be Thai Airways at 19:35h (TG 574).

I am currently not up-to-date about their baggage policy.

Thai Airways has 30 kg allowance in economy.

For me this would mean problem solved.

A oneway costs about 6000 Baht.

Otherwise (for same day) you would have to go the route to Udon and then overland to VTE.

Taxi from Udon to Nong Khai?

Thai Smile flies from Suvarnabhumi at 17:40h and 19:20h.

They charge 60 Baht per kilo exceeding 20 kg.

Generally they are tolerant with excess baggage.

Maybe you get away cheaper (paying for 5 kg / 6 kg)?

Flights to Udon are way cheaper than VTE flights and so even with the taxi cost you might come out "flat".

If you will only being staying in Vientiane for a short period before returning to Thailand, there is baggage storage available at BKK. You could eliminate what you don't need, store it and make the weight for the Vientiane trip.

If you apply online for Bangkok Airways' frequent-flyer card (Flyerbonus) it will give you (from the start) the right to load an extra 10 kgs, hence 30 kgs would still be OK, problem solved !

Happy travels ! smile.png

Oh really? I have their Flyerbonus card for many years. :D

Everybody thanks for the great responses, very helpful!

Guess I do an overnight just outside the airport to fly with Bkk the next morning. Doing the Udon route + van, bridge/visa etc. is a killer after an 11hrs flight.

No can't leave the baggage in Bkk as it's mostly gifts for the girlfriend and friends in Laos.

Cheers

Since you don't tell us what airline you are coming to Bangkok with we are missing a vital piece of information

In most cases, connecting airlines will honor the baggage allowance initially allowed by the first international carrier per IATA rules

For instance, I fly from the US to Taipei and my baggage allowance is 2 checked bags @ 23kgs each in Business Class. But since I fly Taipei to Bangkok in economy my allowance drops, but since I started the trip with the 23 kg allowance it follows me for the entire trip

This may or may not apply to the OP since we don't know if he can check his bags all the way though to VTE from wherever his start point is
