BANGKOK, 2 May 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and high-ranking officials attended the funeral of the late former Prime Minister, Banharn Silpa-archa, held yesterday at Wat Thepsirintharawas Rajaworavihara temple.

Gen Prayut and Cabinet members presided over the funeral last night. Among the attendees were former Attorney General Kanit Na Nakorn, members of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital Mahidol University, members of the press, and students.

Australian Ambassador Paul Robillard and Australian Minister and Deputy Head of Mission Octavia Nicolette Rebecca Borthwick also visited the funeral to pay their respects to Thailand's 21st Prime Minister.

Members of Phalang Chon and Bhumi Jai Thai Parties, as well as those from the National Reform Steering Assembly, Bangkok Bank, Institute of Physical Education and Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University are expected to attend the funeral today. Mr. Banharn was pronounced dead on April 23 at the age of 83. His death was believed to have been caused by an asthma attack.
