So when I go to renew passport am I able to submit paperwork at au embassy in bkk and keep in my possession existing pp. Furthermore continue to exit and reenter until new one is issued. I exit los every couple of weeks so never actually here long enough for process time.

The embassy website states if you hand over passport (presumably to cut identity page), then the new passport can be posted to you. If you keep it in your posession then you need to return in person. I was wondering if anyone has has done the process. Meaning kept it uncut and travelled outside of Thailand.

Seems to be covered by the website;

"Your new passport will take 3 weeks (15 working days) to process. If you need to travel on your current passport while your new one is processed, please advise staff at the interview. If you choose this option you will need to present your current passport to us for cancellation before your new one can be released to you."

I can recall people getting their new passports for OZ in about 2 weeks or less. You might want to postpone your next trip out to be sure you do not have problems.

Don't forget to fill in the application online and print it out

You get a security number to take with you to embassy

If you don't do it expect a long day there

Thanks Monkey4u. Last time I did it I was in and out in very short time. Filled in form there.

On an aside I just ran into a uk friend who said its now done at VSF, trendy building. Both for UK and AU. I doubt that is correct.

I applied for a replacement pp at the embassy 10 days ago, I told the girl I didn't want to travel back to collect it. She therefore cut half the front cover off and let me take existing one home. The new one came yesterday, ems, quicker than she told me, 2?weeks.

I can't answer your question about travelling on the 'cut' pp.

They are quick. It probably won't take 2 weeks.

If a cancelled Passport has a current Thai visa or re-entry permit they are still accepted by Thai Immigration on arrival toThailand provided you have a current passport.(new/old) with you (some people have 2 PP's). For example if you received a new passport in your home country while on holidays your entry to Thailand is unhindered.

OP report. Im currently at au embassy. As I suspected they allow you to retain your old passport, uncut. I can travel with this outside los until new one arrives. Less than 2 weeks.

On side note they rejected my photos even though I followed website guidelines and had it done in a passport photo shop with the lighting etc. She said it the photo paper was not up to scratch. Sent me to shop next to embassy for 3 pics. 120baht. Funny thing is guy I met while waiting had to do exact same thing. The photos he already had seemed fine.
