There is a difference to produce them cheaper, and wanting less profit. Tesla is overpriced, and that is one of the reasons why Musk is so rich. Tesla profits per car are much higher than any of the Chinese EV's, so he earns more by selling less car than BYD,. Another reason for his wealth is all the subsidies he receives from the US government. Without those subsidies several of his companies would have been bankrupted already.
