The insignia on the hood (bonnet) is a Ford emblem. The V and 8 stand for V8 engine. Guess you are not American.

I drove a Volvo F89 in 1973 and it was only a 6 cylinder in line of 330 CV; Exceptional machine; 4-speed gearbox multi-stage gearbox ( 4x2 ) plus overdrive on all gears; which in fact makes 16 reports ( 4x2x2 ) in forward and 4 in reverse. I do not believe that Volvo ever made road engines in 8 cylinders especially in V; maybe marine engines. The good answer was given just above by Rdrokit .
