n210mp Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Could anyone please help with this problem I have of course used the "troubleshooter" which gaves me the thread heading Have followed the numerous YouTube videos X 3 times minimum Updated win 10 twice whilst keeping all my files and settings It didn't work so I Formatted all the drives on my PC before loading a new and clean version of Win 10 My PC works on the internet cable, recognises my WiFi network but will not give me internet access through the WiFi I recently changed from 3BB to "True " and am beginning to "feel" that maybe the new router/Modem from True may be the cause of the problem I have lost all my hair so please if you have any ideas please help Thank you n210mp
lopburi3 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 You aren't using any VPN software by chance? They can prevent more than one connection - pull cable and then WiFi gets internet access on mine. Do other computers/phones get internet access on the WiFi?
Chicog Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Try running an Elevated Command Prompt and enter:netsh int ipv4 install

chrisinth Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Have you tried changing your DNS on your wifi connection to say Google's DNS servers: Primary: 8.8.8.8 Sec: 8.8.4.4 It may help if your device is seeing the wifi but the wifi not seeing the internet.
Chicog Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Stay connected on the wire.Go into Device Manager, uninstall the Wifi device *and* make sure it removes the driver. Shut down.Restart. It should pick up a new driver, install it and apply the necessary protocols.

I cannot believe what has just happened. I started to investigate your suggestion by going into the WiFi section and came up with" WiFi sense" in the settings This is a setting I had not seen before! I turned it off Then I went to my the networks available settings and connected my now disconnected network (it was connected without internet access before iI did this) and lo and behold it connected together with internet access! Thank you for your suggestion even though I didn't know where to search for your information to change the DNS server it took me to the right place to sort the problem so many thanks once again. I have been persevering with this problem now for the last four days and at last I have won
Crossy Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Probably one on those things in W10 most of us would turn off http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/07/wi-fi-sense-in-windows-10-yes-it-shares-your-passkeys-no-you-shouldnt-be-scared/
Chicog Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I'm a bit baffled by that solution. If your DNS wasn't working, that should have been picked up by the troubleshooter.

I don't think the OP got as far as changing the DNS servers (I agree that if it was a DNS issue it would have shown in the troubleshooter). The OP appears to have turned off "WiFi Sense (?)" and was connected after he did this. I don't think i have ever come across problems with network protocols from a 'default' install and correct drivers. The suggestion to check the DNS servers if that would make a difference was an afterthought after 'netsh int ipv4 install' & reinstalling his WiFi drivers didn't work.

Hey it worked, so I'm not knocking it. But if the router DNS isn't working, that doesn't explain the "missing protocol" message. Chalk it up to another M$ oddity I suppose. "Wifi Sense" is that new feature in Windows 10 that "allows" (I use the word loosely!) you to share your networks with your FB friends and contacts. I have both that and the "Share Windows Updates to the world" option turned off!
n210mp Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 Thanks for the posts I thought that I would attempt to logicically tell you what has actually happened here but I cannot! The day after I changed from 3BB to true all was working well with my WiFi network on my PC, laptop, IPad and iPhone, the next day I had the problem with my PC seeing my WiFi network, joining it but not getting the internet on the network ! In trying to work out how to change the DNS server I inadvertently saw the WiFi "sense" section of "settings". I turned this facility off, noticed that my network which I had been connected to (without Internet access) had gone and so I tried to connect my network once again and it opened together with internet access Hooray! My Pc experience is limited and so I turn first to YouTube or any of the Geek forums for info when I have a problem. Usually I am successful in sorting the problems out in this way. The "one or more network protocols are missing on your PC" has been a problem that I could not solve in spite of solutions from all the major Geek sources including Microsoft forum. My experience with win 10 has been a catastrophe from the day I upgraded from win 7 home premium. I never had a problem with this Aldi median quad core PC until i changed to win 10, then one thing after another. Even now I keep getting "Video TDR error" and my PC shutting down and then restarting, this usually happens at least once a day. I have tried all the many solutions to cure this from all the resources that I list above. I even thought it may be an overheating problem especially in this Pattaya heat so I cleaned the fans and heat sink in my graphics card and processor areas to no avail. The PC has been running for over 9 hours at this time and up to yet I have not had a shut-down due to the Video problem, having said that there was a driver update from Nvidia last night that looked as though it may have been the cure for my problems. I am still scratching my head but to be honest have no faith whatsoever in Windows OS any more and there support for me has been non existent

One solution suggests: ´Please disable the Nvidia streaming kernel service / Nvidia Streamer Service if it is there enabled´ Another reads: Hi all! I contacted Nvidia Support and they send me this solution (i have not tested yet)... 1. Perform a clean installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver in “Safe Mode with Networking”: 341.74 NVIDIA graphics driver: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/87988/enus Steps on how to perform a clean installation of the graphics driver: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2900/ 2. Restart the computer into normal mode and install the PhysX and GeForce Experience from the links below: NVIDIA PhysX System Software: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.14.0702-driver.html GeForce Experience: Although that was from August so there may be updated drivers out there. Thanks Chicog For the help and the links but since I updated the nvidia driver the PC has not crashed so I am keeping my fingers crossed at the moment. Im not 100% sure yet that the problem has gone away maybe after another couple of days I will know for sure. Really appreciate your imput PS There was talk on the geek forums about the lack of suitable Nvidia drivers for Win 10 and also recurring problems, maybe not the problem I was experiencing but maybe they have covered my problem with a suitable all encompassing and updated driver?
