Hi everyone

Looking for up to date information about ED visa and language schools here in CM.

Any suggestions with known experience is well appreciated.

Recently i found one language school called Language For Friends school that offer a 200hours of thai classe over the course of one year.

They charge 22k *7k baht upfront so that they can start to make documents. With a document i suppose to go Vientianne to get ED visa for a year but will have to visit immigration 4 times over the year. Rest, 15k baht after im back from Lao with a new visa and start taking classes.

So my main concern is is legit as i hesrd so much last year that a 1year ED visa will be a history and only 6months visas are made or this is just not the case?

They beat everyone with a price as much as i have seen so far but i am unable to get any info in internet on then as they do not have a website, just i half effort given facebook page.

all thoughts appreciated

do you see what i see?

Unless Chiang Mai is different to Bangkok the ED visa is now only 6 months, with 4 x 2-hour classes every week and tests on your Thai language ability at every 90-day extension at immigration.

I am keen to learn language so that is not concer.

but i looked into Pro language school and they do offer 1year course in BKK but does that mean visa is still valid for six months?

Yes the visa is only valid for 6 months, the language schools won't tell you this and I feel very sorry for them. These foreign people that spent years building up their business in Thailand to have them destroyed at a pen stroke with a change in the law but TiT,This is Thailand!

I would go to the School, hang around and talk to other students .

Rules change constantly with immediate effect and some schools adhere to the rules whilst others seem not to .

Also, some schools seem to have a friendly arrangement with immigration

Some misleading information here !

An Ed visa, obtained from any of the nearby countries, will provide a single 90 day entry. Once used the visa is finished and of no further use !

Staying beyond the 90 days requires a person to apply, with supportive paperwork from their school, for an extension of stay (which is not a "visa" ) from Immigration. An extension will be for a max of 90 days.

So the foreign owners of language schools didn't spend many years building up their businesses then, can you please inform us why?

Splitting hairs really as the fact of the matter is they're only giving a single extension now then, leading to a 6-month stay in Thailand as opposed to the previous 3 extensions giving a full 12-month stay.

It's possible to get more that 1 3-month extension. It depends upon the length of the course. The course description including the length of the course needs to be attached to the school license. Therefore, I'm sure some schools can do this.
