NLA petitioned to cancel mineral exploration licenses in Phetchabun

BANGKOK, 11 May 2016 (NNT) - A group of activists has petitioned the National Legislative Assembly to consider the cancellation of all mineral exploration licenses in Phetchabun province.

The NLA’s First Vice President Surachai Liengboonlertchai on Tuesday met with Mr. Supol Poolpipat, Chairman of the Green World Organization in Phetchabun, who traveled to Bangkok to submit a complaint and to petition against the issuance of 38 mineral exploration licenses since 2011.

Mr. Supol said that the NLA should cancel all licenses because they are behind the alleged heavy metal contamination in some areas.

He said that heavy metals, such as mercury, arsenic and cyanide, have contaminated soil and been flushed into Pa Sak River — resulting in health hazards for the people and damage to the agricultural sector and the ecological system.

Mr. Supol also asked the NLA to consider including members of the public in the special committee tasked with a review of a draft amendment of the Minerals Act in order to ensure the fairness of the amended law.

I am not sure if this is reference to the Phetchabun area or the Akara mine at Phichit, however having high quantities of Mercury you'd loose all your teeth and hair and with high quantities of cyanide you'd be dead, so if these claims are true these people must be very sick or talking from the grave , the Phichit area is interesting as they have always maintained that the gold in the ground is theirs and over decades they have fought with the government over rights to mine . The ABC 7Am news today announced that the government had withdrawn permission to mine at Phichit , if this is the case, the Junta sends a strong message to all international mining companies to invest their hundreds of millions elsewhere , the mine at Phichit is worth about 1 billion at today's price..........................................coffee1.gif .
