BANGKOK: -- A combined force of over a hundred soldiers and police launched simultaneous raids on 12 homes of influential figures in Samut Prakarn in another bid to curb criminal activities.

The targets raided included the homes of two Pheu Thai party’s core leaders Worachai Hema, and Pracha Prasobdee.

Worachai and Pracha were former MP of the party in Samut Prakarn. Pracha was also former deputy minister of Interior.

The crime suppression drive campaign was under the command of Pol Gen Srivara Rangsipramanakul, deputy commissioner of the Royal Thai Police.

The police officer said results of the campaign will be made known to the public late this afternoon at a press conference.

Influential people of the red persuasion.....

Glad to see the little general is being so even handed in his quest to stamp out corruption he is truly enlightened and his work will no doubt bring more happiness to a certain sector of the people....

Dark times ahead .

Not just students , academics, peasants and politicians .....everyone...even westerners eventually will be raided for calling the leader a S.O.B

I hope people planning to holiday there catch wind of unfolding events and have a ""better understanding "" that's not advisable .

Got to start somewhere.

Suppose they have appropriate licenses and paperwork. all up to date, for all those firearms?

Their reliance and being above the law isn't so reliable as before now they aren't running the show and doing as they pleased. Neither is the excuse the "others do it so why pick on me".

It remains to be seen if these will be followed through, and if other cases will be followed through on.

The proof of the pudding will be if / when the "influential" people on certain Islands come under scrutiny as well as non overt political figures.

Soldiers and police raid 12 more homes in order to better protect the human rights of the owners. The personal touch. Very comforting and reassuring and another tidbit towards reconciliation and happiness.

Just the maids and gardeners at home ?,I suspect.

When the police are involved then the home owners "Will Be Alerted" before hand. These are the people keeping the BIB in new cars.

Just what is your concept of reconciliation, letting the criminals keep their spoils?

Posted

obviously they are not actually influential or the raids would not be on, they are just the perceived enemy to those with real influence

Mind you it's not entirely impossible that someone in a tight green uniform might have a hankering after a new car...

This is what happens to political opposition in a military police state...

No freedom of expression here...move along please...

The question remains...were the criminals the influential people of Samut Prakarn...or the people making the raid?...coffee1.gif

would some one like to play a game with me? select any member that was arrested and i will dump their crimes online and link them to you. that way you can decide for yourself. but dont forget that YOU should also be free of illegal activities in your past as well. I just love verifying data.

No, it is applying justice uniformly regardless of political allegiance.

What is happening now is the opposite of reconciliation. It is deepening existing wounds.

Not to worry folks

Here in Thailand all foreigners are of no influence at all and more or less disregarded while sometimes arrested for other reasons...but never for being influential....lol

But surely starting with your opposition, while not taking any action against others, who are equally guilty, can only be construed as injustice & inequity.

Do you think that the influential southern landowners & village chiefs have 'appropriate licences & paperwork' for all of their weapons?

Reconciliation! What a joke!

It was always going to be this way. They maintained the illusion of even-handedness for longer than I thought they would, but now the Thai people are waking up to them, by all accounts, they also have factions of the military and the police who have woken up and no longer support them, the International Community is taking the gloves off, with sanctions to follow. They are desperate to gain some credibility, no matter how flimsy, by the referendum passing what is clearly a constitution designed only to ensure the military rule for 20 years or so so they can make make all the reforms to Thai society that they want - to ensure that Thais are kept stupid, uneducated and propagandised in while the feudal barons continue to plunder the country.

They figure it worked once, it'll work twice, but they apparently do not understand how much the wold has change in the past 40 or 50 years when the propagandising to mould a compliant nation began. That lack of understanding will be their undoing.

What this government wants is clearly foreshadowed by some of the truly awful Thai soap operas this year. Traditional clothes, traditional houses, traditional culture of greng-jai traditional grovelling to authority but modern haircuts. That is one of Thailand's possible futures but I don't think it's a very realistic one.

The coup was well-planned over a long period of time, and was clearly co-ordinated very well by those who were sponsoring it for their own enrichment and future security. No dog willingly gives up a tasty bone, and the Thai bone has been truly delicious for the privileged few.

It worked as planned, but it's all turning sour for lack of competence. You can't employ grunts like these to manage a country, it doesn't work, not for very long anyway. The 2 P's and others of their ilk will go under the bus when the wheels fall off, and I think that realisation is slowly dawning on them, it's in their behaviour and it's in their eyes. That's why they're going after the reds under the pretence of dismantling the mafias, of whom their sponsors and their own organisations actually form the majority, as they well know.

But it isn't my problem, and I for one will just sit back and enjoy the show. There'll be lots to learn about people in the coming months and years.

Civil war or failed state - take your pick because I believe it'll be one or the other, The dark ages are returning to Thailand and it will take a very long time to make up the ground they are losing to their neighbours every day. The other SEA countries will gnaw on Thailand's bones, because they all have plenty of reasons to despise the Thais, whatever the diplomats might say about unity in ASEAN.

Winnie.

Mmmh, what can I say..... I am sure some of the other 10 are influential politicians from the other side of the colour divide after all the little general is known for his even-handed application of the law and his complete and unwavering quest for reconciliation.....

Theres none so blind as those who refuse to see....
