Riding north up the Frontage Road after Don Muang airport, I noticed a sign for the Tollway, I obviously could not ride there, on my right, there are notices

stating that motorbikes are prohibited on the carriageway on my right, I found myself on a U turn which took me in the opposite direction, I then carried on to the next

U turn which took me back to where I was before.

I came to the same place again and decided (I had no choice) to ride on the prohibited carriageway, there were plenty of other motorbikes also using it.

Is this a ruse to allow the police to collect tea money at certain times?

I think you were on the part where it goes off to the left to Lamluka Road?

If so, just go on to the main carriage way, keep right but not all the way to the right, and when you have passed the junction you will see a slip road running onto the frontage road on your left.

I don't think so, I passed a sign saying "grand canal" just maybe 1 or 2 Ks before.

The fact that there were a quite a few other bikes on the prohibited road at the same time as me, would tell you

that there is no other road for bikes to use.

Instead of taking the main road straight through, you should have taken the first loop around left, the second looparound left is a big U-Turn down along Phahonyothin.

Which is what you did, when you came back and looped back over the main Viphawadee road, you should have stayed on the left side which takes you to the frontage road (where Big C is)

I know the road well.

It's not a ruse. Motorbikes must use the inner most lane.

This is the map, and what you should have done, from a legal perspective.

Yes, I think that you are right, but the fact that so many riders are going over the prohibited route, would tell

you that, like me, if you are not used to it, then you are going to end up either on the U turn road, or the

prohibited road, as your first priority is to avoid the tollway.

There is no tollway entrance near there. You have passed it already 1km or so before turn left for the frontage road.

You went the wrong way, not sure why it troubles you so much DELETEDrolleyes.gif
