Hello all,

- my wife and me married 29.04.2016 in Bang Rak

- we live in Kanchanaburi Province

- our son will be born in one month

- i have German citizenship

- my actual Visa is Tourist Visa on 30day extension

here the questions (inquired Immigration in Kanchanaburi some days ago, but could not get definitive answers. also on the net i could not find conclusive information so maybe you can help me out):

1.1 is it possible to apply for a change of visa from Tourist to Non Immigrant O?

1.2 and if yes, can it be done inside Thailand?

1.3 and if yes, at any Immigration Office, or only in Chaeng Wattana?

2. if it is not possible to change i will have to apply for Non Immigrant O.

2.1 is it possible to apply for Non Immigrant O inside Thailand, or only at a Thai embassy or consulate abroad?

2.2 if yes, at any Immigration Office, or only in Chaeng Wattana?

Thanks for your attention.

Any helpful comments will be appreciated.

  • You can't change your visa.

You could change to a non 'O' entry as part of the process of applying for a 1 year extension of stay. You would need 400K in your bank or a certified income of 40K pm, at least 15 days left of your permit to stay and it would require two trips to Bangkok (CW) immigration.

You will need to exit Thailand to get a non 'O' visa from a Thai Embassy or Consulate.

As you are now married you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay.

It is not possible to "change visas"

If you have 15 days+ remaining on the visa exempt entry (it is not a tourist visa) you can apply for that entry to be converted to a non "O" entry. The cost will be 2000Bht and you must prove that the requirements of an extension of stay based on marriage can be met ( 400,000 Bht in a Thai bank OR a certified income of 40,000 Bht/month)

It is likely that this will need to be done in Bangkok and two visits to immigration will be required.

A new "O" visa can be obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate outside Thailand with your marriage certificate + copies of your wife ID and Tabian Baan
