Foreign ladies sunbathing in undies not happy to have to cover up - but police say it was for their

Let's be fair for a change[emoji23][emoji23]this is Thailand, it is not normal to sunbathe in your bikini in a public park.Girls may do that at home but this is not home. You must accept their rules and respect the culture too.If you don't like it lump it

The article mentioned nothing about rules and respect for culture. It was entirely based on the idea that a tourist's apparel choices are the source of potential problems. Primitively thinking.

It would be attracting unwanted attention so it was good of the policeman to advise them. However, on the other side of the coin the police need to clamp down on unacceptable behaviour of Thai's which would lead to problems arising from the girls actions

And this is coming from a country with hundreds of thousand of half naked bar girls and street walkers...

did any one said double standards here?......

True.. When speaking of a tiny fraction of Thailand. You should get out more.

Yes a stupid comment.

"Half naked"? Not in Pattaya. They are fully naked.

But you don't see even bar girls lying around public parks in Ayuttaya. There are strippers in most countries but it doesn't mean you can strip in public parks or on church grounds.

The cop pulled them up for inappropriate behaiviour and then they were rude to him. He should have arrested them and given them some Thai style attitude adjustment. It sounded like they needed it. Rude western slags.

Article says they walked off in a huff. Which of course is exactly how anyone would expect them to react. People don't like being told what to do, especially western females.

This is definitely mountains out mole hills.

Ha ha ! Nice 1 !!

Those poor Policeman/men having to take 30 mins or more to explain (and perhaps breaking out in a sweat of excitement) because their English not good? gigglem.gif

But, rightly or wrongly, it is good advice for dumb-assed tourists who make no or seemingly little effort to understand local customs.

A simple rule: When in Rome do as the Romans do (like it or not). coffee1.gif

love to see more shots of the blond one in front, she looks phenominal from what i can see, no wonder guys were stopping to chek here out.. but don't think rape is an issue over there, and for all you know these girls could be blackbelts, so its ok for ugly guys to sunbathe but not women, is that what they're saying?

So I guess I should be incensed at the cop in BKK Chinatown who asked me to push my wallet deeper into my pocket when he noticed it was poking out, instead of arresting all the potential pickpockets in the area? Violated my God given right to be a victim, he did.

Funny how we never read about the pickpocket crimes (and assaults) that didn't happen...

Proving once again- that a percentage of western travelers are clearly not suited for travel outside their own countries.

Most of them are incurable. Even of they knew the local laws/customs and mores of a society, they still do as they please.

Stupid girls no respect for the histporical site, just rude offensive and NOT the sort of tourists Thailand wants, I bet if you went to their country and sunbathed in your underwear you would get more than a telling off. WELL DONE Plod.

although I think the women were being a bit insensitive to local mores, does one then have to logically come to the conclusion that most Thai men must therefore regard partially clad women has an invitation to rape?

Definitely not all and probably not even most. But enough to make discretion the better part of suntanning. This advice might be appropriate in many parts of the world and just lately, probably much more-so in parts of Europe with lots of new "migrants", where previously it could possibly have been be done with impunity.

Also, was it really underwear or just bikinis. Even with the latter, a public park in Ayutthaya is not the same as a beach or pool surround in Pattaya.

Those who need the polices' attention most IMO are those who consider it "an invitation to rape"

until the mid 20th century traditional Thai women's attire was often topless - so how does this set with "Thai culture"??

you are just a guest here. the law of this country prohibits this kid of behavior. you can have two simple choices

1) obey the law

2) leave Thailand

as simple as that...

really - which law is that?

The law of kid behavior, as he said.

Typical official Thai reaction - cover up for your own safety and blame the victim or potential victim.

So, if I get drunk on walking street, flash a big roll of bills, stagger into a dark alley for a pee and get mugged it is really not my fault? I didn't attract the attention of thugs and muggers? In the politically correct world it is not my fault, it's the fault of the criminal, but in the real world if I didn't get drunk, didn't flash my roll, didn't use a dark alley but instead a public toilet, most likely I wouldn't have been mugged. These girls should have thanked the officer for his concern, covered up and found a more appropriate venue to sunbathe that didn't attract unwanted and unwelcome attention. Seems like the one thing many tourists forget to bring on their holiday is the brains and common sense.

There are a lot of nationalities who are extremely aroused by white women.

Scantily clad only increases the attraction.

And some nationalities believe all sorts of myths about these women.

Especially if you come from a sexually repressive society & think that white women are more relaxed with their sexual standards.

l have seen the males reactions to white women in several non-white countries.

Just cover up girls, until you get home.

The Police were trying to help you.

And it made more work for them if you were attacked!

I know for a fact that if you strip down to bra and panties in most if not all Canadian cities you will be charged.

The police have 2 choices in this sight the fact that it is against the law and get into that argument or use the easier for most people to understand and less argumentative that it could lead to them runing into trouble. Thee was no mention of Thai men causing harm it could be any of the many Male tourists that come over here get drunk and do what they want also.

Besides this is not Pattaya or Phuket this is what is considered a religious and historical city.

What would the response be if they did that on the lawn in hyde park.

no way. in politically correct world it's not your fault. it's not criminal's fault (may be he is so poor and was abused in childhood). it's always a fault of the government and the police.

What nonsense. Would you apply that to the USA where in the Bible Belt you cannot buy a vibrator but elsewhere in the country has been known as the Porn Capital of the world?

Haven't read all the posts but I understand it to mean that the police didn't think that the Thai guys who were watching or walking by could handle it and might might loose control and try to rape the ladies. In the photo the girls appear to be in shorts and a bra not panties and bra.
