Strange noises from an inverter refrigerator

Recommended Posts

We had a power fail last night in an electrical storm, woke up to a loud noise like concrete blocks being dragged across a concrete floor. House current was fluctuating between a brownout and zero. Traced the sound to the refrigerator, an LG with an inverter compressor. Disconnected until power was restored for a couple of hours. The refrigerator appears to be operating normally now.

A bit concerned there might have been damage. Can anyone explain what happened?

There is a device that you can buy, plug it into the wall, plug the frig into the device then when the electrical current fluctuates, the device turns the frig off for a few minutes. This aviods damage to the frig and increases its life substantially. Highly recommended.

Also the inverter will make sound until the temperature stabilizes. Ours was making a loud buzzing sound for about 2 days when we first bought it. After about 15 hours the wife panicked and thought there was a problem. She called Siam TV and they sent a guy out in 30 minutes to check the problem. He said it was normal. After the end of the 2nd day it was completely silent. The only other time it made any sound was after about a 6 hour power failure. Once it stabilized it was silent again.

Dante, have you seen plug-in ones in Thailand??

Not sure what you mean but ...

I bought a couple in Chiang Mai which are a box approximately 4"X4"X2" with a cord that goes to the power outlet in the wall. The frig plugs into the box which I hung on the wall. Seems to work as the firg shuts off for a few minutes when the power goes down or fluctuates enough to necessitate resetting the digital clock on the stove.

Got them many years ago and not sure if it was Home Pro or an electrical supply shop. Brand is Safeguard with a red logo, circle in the middle, called a Motor Compressor Protector on the box,

Ok my turn, what is the best brand/model motion sensor to use for outdoor lighting where it is exposed?

Thanks for all your support, I have read a lot of your helpful posts.
