Travel Insurance including motorbike cover

Featured Replies

Hi,

I know there are a few threads on travel insurance already but wondering if anyone found themselves in the same situation as me that might be able to give some advice.

I am looking for a health insurance policy that will cover me driving a motorbike here in Bangkok while holding Thai (motorbike and car) licenses but not one from my own country (UK). Also that will cover a bike I own rather than rental under 31 days.

World Nomads and a couple of others I looked at will only cover with UK license and under 31 day rental period on bike.

Just a small bike, under 125cc.

Any ideas would be great, but hopefully looking for something not too expensive - just for emergency health cover - don't need outpatient as not going to the doctor often.

Cheers!

I would suspect you would need to look at local insurance companies, but saying that suspect they wouldnt be providing travel insurance for Thailand.

By the sounds of things you are resident here, therefore it follows you wouldnt be elible for travel insurance because your not travelling and already hold DLs for Thailand, so you will need some other form of policy

Thanks for getting back. Yes I am resident here. The ones I have been looking at (World Nomads, ACS) are expat policies - which generally people seem to recommend - rather than Thai insurance companies.

I have a Thai policy through my work but coverage isn't great so am looking for Expat policy including motorbike coverage.

Ok so why you looking at travel insurance then ?...there are international insurance companies in Thailand who do "expat" polices, such as AIA, but these are not travel insurance as such

Ok sure, not travel insurance... not sure how to edit the title though. Will take a look at AIA. Just wondering about other options.

Not an expert on this but most travel insurance, if not all, will expect you to be licensed in your home country. As an Aussie my travel insurance will cover me but only with proof of my Australian bike license. Thai one holds no weight. I imagine if you want some insurance on riding a bike in Thailand with only a Thai riders license that the insurance would have to come from Thailand.

Contact the company which you have through your work and simply increase the level of cover to your requirements. You already have a history with them and already covered part way to the level you want. It should work of a lot cheaper.

Thanks for replies. Will look into increasing level of cover with company insurance which is Muang Thai.

Have looked at Thai companies but as I don't sepak/read much Thai navigating websites and phone calls can be a bit of a nightmare, which I was hoping to find an international based expat insurance with English as main language.

Cheers for ideas
