Royal Chitradon admits he made wrong weather forecast

BANGKOK: -- Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute director Royal Chitradon said today he would not dare to make weather forecasts because of the unpredictable weather changes which make it difficult for accurate forecasting.

Mr Royal admitted he made a mistake when he predicted Monday that there would be heavy rains in Bangkok in the evening after 6 pm with rainfalls averaging 100 mm and up to 150 mm in some parts of the city. However, it didn’t rain in Bangkok in the evening at all.

He said that the rain cloud that he predicted would move to Bangkok from Chanthaburi through Rayong and Chanthaburi Monday evening and would bring heavy rains had suddenly moved northward and brought heavy rains in Nakhon Pathom and, in particular, in Kanchanaburi.

Whether there will be rain this evening or not, he said he would not dare to predict because of the unpredictable weather changes. He advised reporters to better to better ask the Meteorological Department.

He also advised reporters to ask the Weatherman about the cyclone in the Indian Ocean which appears likely to hit Myanmar and may affect Thailand.

Obviously he forgot to advise the rainmaking squad of his desired route.

For a long time now, I have commented that all those ' weather predictions ' (weather you forecast, not predict,)

are no better than gazing at a crystal ball or reading Tarot cards,

somehow, meteorologists in Thailand getting it more often wrong that right, why? to hard to come up with

the proper, more accurate forecasts, too hard.......

If he's advising consulting the Met dept why did he make his ' prediction ' in the first place ?

What is it about Thai officials that they just have to speak ?

Royal is his first name or is he descended from the Kings?

I have a 12 year old Dog called Tuk Tuk. If it gets on the table it rains. The only system I've found here that's accurate.

Royal is his first name or is he descended from the Kings?

It's a typo (shock, horror), the transliteration of his name is actually ROYOL.

Gosmacked that PBS made an error.

... and under the bed for thunderstorms...?

Not trying to be too harsh here, but the vast majority of Thais love the sound of their own voice.

It was the Meteorological Department that told us there was NOT going to be a heatwave and Thailand has just had the worst heatwave in living memory!gigglem.gif

I think these weather predictions come from reading the tea leaves! cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

"He said that the rain cloud that he predicted would move to Bangkok from Chanthaburi through Rayong and Chanthaburi Monday evening and would bring heavy rains had suddenly moved northward and brought heavy rains in Nakhon Pathom and, in particular, in Kanchanaburi."

The rain must have done a run around Bangkok, since Nakhon Pathom and Kanchanaburi are west of Bangkok

An empty bucket, makes the most noise!

I get my weather predictions for Thailand from Europe, and they are far more accurate than the ones put out here. I get the distinct impression that weather predictions here based on what they want people want to hear, not what will happen.

All part of thainess kid we will never ever understand. Even thais don't understand or question why they do things. Just don't ask why.

you only need one weather forecast "hot and humid with a chance of rain" fits every day here.

He was wrong...he lost face. In this culture the solution is obvious. Completely stop trying.

Choppers weather report.

On the other hand- he is the first "official" I am aware of who admits he made a mistake without fear of losing face.

Too bad he is just a weatherman...

Feel a bit sorry for Mr. Chitradon that his forecast for rain didn't transpire.

Just put it down to being a 3rd world country I suppose. Wouldn't expect anything like that to happen in UK, eh?..............rolleyes.gif

The reason I remember this is that we were on patrol in the English Channel while the devastation was going on. Helped rescue 2 people of the yacht 'YoYo', picked up by Royal Navy SAR; the French refused to launch, followed by picking up the drowned bodies from MV Morning Star off the Channel Islands after her grain cargo shifted and the vessel turned turtle.

Two days after the storm abated, our mast fell off due to structural damage bouncing through the seas. This was a Royal Navy vessel as well.................thumbsup.gif

You have to give some Kudos to any Thai for admitting they are wrong....

I hope many more people see that admitting fault is not such a painful action and in many cases is a positive move.
