I left in May one day over with no charge, not sure if it's still free post October 1.

you will be ok

will this have any effect with regards to the new policy of 90days in 90 days out rule? I am on a 60 day(renewed once) tourist visa and plan to do another visa run. Will the one day overstay interfere with anything?

It won't interfere at all. The 90 day rule only applies to the 30 day entry permission.

I thought it best to mention that although you will not be charged at the airport for a day over, it's still illegal to overstay and if you happen to be caught anywhere other than the airport, you could have trouble in that you would most likely be arrested.

Hey Doc, You seem very certain about this. Is this because you feel this way or do you have any kind of proof or reason that says this is true? It's very important that we only use the resources of everyone in the group to spread what we know from experience rather than our own interpretations of rules with nothing to back it up. If you have any proof, I would love to see it and I hope you're right. Accoring to the HK Thai Consulate, the 90 days in 6 months includes all forms of entry.

The new policiy is used for tourists to stay not exceeding 90 days

within 6 month period. Either the tourists use their free access visa or tourist visa, they are

all counted together. For example, you entered the kingdom by the free accees visa for your

first trip and you stayed 30 days. Then, you applied for a tourist visa(60 days) at a

consulate and stayed for the whole period(60 days). You will be rejected to enter the

kingdom for your next trip as your quota has been used up.

The Consulate does not make the rules for immigration. And immigration has repeatedly said this only applies to entry without visa. As it is an immigration issue I will have to believe them until proven otherwise.

If you want to doubt the word of Dr. Pat Pong – what heresy! – and want written proof, then you need to read the corresponding Royal Thai Police Order in the original Thai text. Ask the immigration office for a copy. You can download an English translation here, but please be aware that only the original Thai text counts.

Happy reading!

Absolutely right Lop. One can only wonder where any consulate gets authority to make rules as they go.
