Tourist caught with stolen bag in Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

CHIANG MAI: A Mexican aged tourist was caught red-handed with stolen shoulder bag in hand after quietly grabbed it from a sidewalk gallery vendor in Chiang Mai Night Bazaar last night.

The tourist was identified as Mr Albert Ramos, 66.

According to police, Ramos pretended to shop around a gallery “Art In Feeling” on the basement floor of the night bazaar at midnight.

As the gallery owner Asanee Chaluay went to the toilet after finishing painting a customer, leaving his shoulder bag on the chair.

But after he returned, the bag disappeared.

A look into the gallery’s video camera showed the tourist grabbed his bag away.

Police were called in to look for the tourist and after half an hour search, he was located in the night bazaar with the stolen bag containing a notebook, four Buddha amulets, bank deposit books.

He was later taken to the police station to face theft charge.

However he denied the charge, police said.

Asanee makes a living by painting portraits..Aged Mexican ?= Senile Old Fool...he should tell them he suffers from a rare form of disease that made him nick stuff that are left unattended. ???

Just an apology for being drunk might do the trick but oh he is not Thai?

What exactly is a "Mexican aged'" person ? Someone who looks like they have lived a hard life in Mexico ? Perhaps they meant an "aged Mexican" ?

Perhaps you're being pedantic and you know exactly what they meant?

As luck would have it the bag contained amulets thus ensuring the bag was ultimately returned to it's rightful owner. These amulets will now probably completely fulfill the the owners good luck and ensure the Mexican is found guilty and receives a harsh penalty for stealing said amulets.

There is also a word "aged," pronounced a-jed and meaning older. Oh, what am I doing? Thainess, see what I mean?

Theft is theft, irrespective of age or nationality. He's lucky he didn't get the impulse to steal in Saudi Arabia.

...got to hand it to the Saudis...they know how to discourage theft.

On the contrary - theft is rampant in KSA ascis a lot of petty crime. One reason is that the harsh punishments are applied to foreigners not locals - the other is that because the punishments are so severe people do not acknowledge such crimes. Theft is a way of life in the Arab world.

What total rot. Saudi applies its punishments to Saudis far more than it does to foreigners. Petty crime is virtually non-existent in Saudi. In the 2 years I worked there - there was an Indonesian cleaner who stole stuff from the people she cleaned for and a Western project manager who stole an iPhone - that was in a company of more than 2,000 people.

Yes they save their mischief for inciting terrorism across the globe.

I wouldn't disagree with that at all. Wahhabism is a seriously awful branch of faith and responsible for much (though to be fair not all) of Islamic fundamentalist terrorism.
