UDON THANI: -- Two Indian men who tricked two other Indians into coming to Thailand to find lucrative work met their match in Thai Tourist police this weekend.

Vineeth Unnikrishnan,30, and Anooj Mottaammal, 25, were arrested at the Friendship Bridge. They had earlier relieved their two compatriots of $1,200 US dollars each on the promise of work laying internet cables for which they said they would get paid 40,000 baht a month reported Thairath.

Instead after meeting the victims at the Udon airport and seeing them to their hotel thetricksters promptly disappeared over the border.

The victims realising they had been duped contacted tourist police saying they were left with only 700 baht. They needed help from their embassy to get back to India.

They had replied to an online brochure promising the excellent work package, something that had been advertised at the school where they were finishing their studies. Sujith Chengathi, 27, and Abin Varkey, 21, were helped by parents and relatives who mortgaged land and property to raise the four thousand dollars to sort everything out for their visit to Thailand to get the work.

Thai tourist police and immigration authorities swung into action and the swindlers were arrested at the bridge checkpoint as they returned from Laos where they said they had a restaurant. They claimed they would give the victims work there but had told them lies about the more lucrative work in Thailand to entice them.

They said they were reentering Thailand to visit Thai girlfriends in Udon.

"Thai tourist police and immigration authorities swung into action"

Action? They just waited for them to try to cross the border again.

Typical Indian style scam, many young men are lured for abroad jobs with decent salary and got scammed by skimmy agents.

The two culprits in the picture are the ones who fooled the remaining two, may be live on cheating innocent young men.

In fact the wages are better and high in India, but the problems is too many brilliant guys with better education looking for jobs.

Why so mamy scammers in asia?

Do they not know how to make a normal honest living?

Kinda bad society with low moral.

How do they make an honest living in LOS without a work permit?

Issan girls date unemployed Indians? I'm not prejudiced, but TIT and we all know how things work.

Thais don't really like Indians. A better question I have is: there are Indians in Isarn? All I've ever seen were Thai, Lao and fat "farang". Maybe a couple of Chinese as well. But Indians are supposed to be in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya.

Fat farang in Issan? I know you're pulling my leg now. Next thing you're going to tell me is that they are over 50.

Aren't tricksters supposed to be female?

No, but do you have a word in mind for a male "trickster".

Are gangsters and banksters all male?

In your extensive peregrinations in the Isaan region, have you never seen any undernourished farangs? They must be out there somewhere.

Over 65,000 Indians in the Kingdom have full Thai citizenship. There are also two or three in Chiang Mai I hear.wink.png
